I wonder why they said it's exciting if you live or work in downtown...DowntownNick wrote:Ah ok I see it now. Thanks!

Looks like Downtown Indy's Circle Center Mall downtown is on a retail downfall with numerous stores and restaurants closing:
http://www.indystar.com/story/news/2016 ... /79345504/
But it looks like the management firm Simon has done a good job with filling space with mixed-uses like office and education and perhaps now even adding some apartments. I'd like to think with M/X filling its Wash Ave space with restaurants maybe we could see a few stores open in the area, but its just a tough biz for downtowns. Probably small boutiques and unique things like Star Clipper are probably all we can realistically hope for for awhile. (Oh, and a drug store.)

Where is Walgreens and/or CVS? Why are they not downtown?
I could see one going in the Shannons space with a big ass sign visible along Market street similar to the one along Canal Street in New Orleans.

I honestly wish I knew an answer to this question. Culnaria has a pharmacy, but everything there closes up shop at 9 pm. We have a Tim Horton's that is 24 hours, but not a 24 hour pharmacy..makes a lot of sense. Downtown still needs some basic essentials.moorlander wrote:Where is Walgreens and/or CVS? Will CVS make a move to a larger store whenever their lease is up on the small store within the AT&T building?

^ I sure hope so or just open a larger one elsewhere.... I think my four favorite spots from first to last would be
1) one of those fancy urban marquee ones in a portion of old Macy's as part of Phase One redevelopment (most unlikely to happen)
2) the rear of the M/X on Locust and 6th
3) one of the retail spots (if large enough) being offered as part of the Kiener garage upgrade
4) the Bogen Lofts or somewhere on Washington on 10th - 14th Street area.

I guess it isn't technically "downtown"...but there is a Walgreens on Lafayette, where you get on/off the highway between Lafayette Square and Foulard.moorlander wrote:Where is Walgreens and/or CVS? Why are they not downtown?

^Gotta get one in actual Downtown for all the residents, visitors and daytime workers.

A Walgreens, CVS, and City Target are downtown's top needs.

I tried Delfino's this week. The pizza is very good. More offerings than Empire and they even have a few locations in Brooklyn. The owner is a great guy. Give them a try.bprop wrote:Any idea what's up with this? Last week, the P-D ran an article saying the pizza place was opening by Friday (of last week). There were people in there Friday, lights were on, and it looked ready to open - but it wasn't. Today, it was locked up tight with no lights on. There was a pizza box top sitting by the front door. On it was a message written in marker - something about "not being open for sure but this week will would to be open." (i.e. it was written by someone for whom English was clearly a second or third language).DowntownNick wrote:Saw people working inside earlier tonight as I was driving by.FirSTLove wrote:Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but looks like a place called Delfino's Pizza is moving into the former Empire spot at 1131 Washington. I saw that their other local location is inside the West County Mall. There were men working inside on Saturday night which seems to indicate they are trying to open quickly.
Not an auspicious start, but looking forward to pizza by the slice again.

Got my free hot salami today from the Gioa's Food Truck.... it'll be nice to have the brick and mortar (at old Sauce on the Side spot on Pine) open in April.
Also, George Mahe at stlmag picked the 600 Washington Avenue block as one of the three hot spots in the region with restaurants along with Macklind and Grand Center.

I think the downtown CVS scenario will have to be the washington avenue crowd finally getting the 7-11 on 17th street shut down. Residents of Plaza Square get upset and protest. CVS built where 7-11 was. Lots of boone's and colt-45 to go.
TH opened downtown, yesterday.
I hope they don't cannibalize other bread and donut shops like Pharoah's and St. Louis Bread Company.

It's been open for a few weeks. Yesterday was just the celebration.arch city wrote:TH opened downtown, yesterday.

The fact the lobby is open until 11pm is nice.
Wow. When I started working downtown in 1999, that was one of the few places nearby. There was Gregory's, Red Door, Chod's, Luigi's, Edible, and the this-close-to-bedlam McDonalds.roger wyoming II wrote:Edible Difference is closing later this month.
Several of the current workers (besides the owners) must have been with Edible since it opened.
It's now the garage where the red door moved. The McDonalds was at 7th and Olive.
The best way to describe it is this: When the following Onion article came out, I was positive it had to have been written about the downtown McDonalds.
http://www.theonion.com/article/downtow ... h-from-203
Every single detail in that article reflects how that McDonalds functioned (except the mention of a drive through; there wasn't one).
Note there was a different McDonalds in St. Louis Center that was marginally better.

The Webster cafe/bookstore space has now opened.... looks like pretty sparse offerings but at least it's an open retail spot. And it looks like the Art Gallery should be open soon as well. Elsewhere. I noticed for the first time that some kind of furniture and knick-knack spot is open at the 720 Olive building on the danky 6th Street side.
720 Olive is bounded by Olive (north), 8th (west), and Pine (south).roger wyoming II wrote:The Webster cafe/bookstore space has now opened.... looks like pretty sparse offerings but at least it's an open retail spot. oops... I meant on 6th in the Millennium Center or whatever Hayden calls it now.
Sidebar on Wash Ave temporarily closed. Opening back up on March 1st as new concept with new management and a new menu.
