If those renderings I posted before are to scale, it looks like the Timmy Ho's will be about 3,500 sq. ft. Which seems recently sized.
Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but looks like a place called Delfino's Pizza is moving into the former Empire spot at 1131 Washington. I saw that their other local location is inside the West County Mall. There were men working inside on Saturday night which seems to indicate they are trying to open quickly.

^ cool. also, Gioa's confirmed they were making progress on plans for a downtown brick & mortar.... not sure if its still for the old Sauce on the Side spot.
Saw people working inside earlier tonight as I was driving by.FirSTLove wrote:Not sure if this has been posted anywhere, but looks like a place called Delfino's Pizza is moving into the former Empire spot at 1131 Washington. Personally I don't mind the Tim Horton's configuration. It's not great, but I'm glad they'll be there. And that spot should help them balance their business objectives with a mix of foot and car traffic.
Now if we could just do something about Tucker as a road itself. So many lanes. Such short pedestrian lights. Needs work.

welp, Detroit officially has kicked our downtown retail butts:

Welcome @Nike to downtown Detroit!Two-level 22,000 sq. ft 'Nike Detroit' will open this spring at 1261 Woodward Avenue.Believe.Then see it.
That's a large space. And it will be next door to the existing Moose Jaw outdoor retailer. A large Restoration Hardware is also rumored to be coming and Under Armour also has said it is scouting downtown. Thing is, I don't really think the DT demographics are that much more significant at the moment than ours, but it shows what a downtown can do with a vision, capacity and confidence.

^You need to take over the Retail/Downtown/Visionary/Planning/Recruiting/Comparingothercities job....You're very up on all of it.
^ Agreed. Detroit is making the kinds of real infrastructure investments in their downtown that St. Louis needs. Woodward is nicer/more urban of a street than St. Louis has, even without the streetcar.

^ I do wonder how much having a Woodward Ave in Detroit or Euclid Ave in Cleveland helps them out with being able to capitalize more on dt revivals than we have. They're kind of part Washington Ave/part Market Street and the clear spine of downtown/midtown urbanism. And having decent brt/streetcar access helps maximize the potential.
^ I think if we made it a priority to revamp the Forest Park Avenue/Market/Compton/40 intersection in order to make Market and Forest Park one continuous street it could create that central spine the city needs. An at-grade intersection at Grand would be the cherry on top.

^ things get muddled downtown (especially in the CBD, where Olive is a narrow one-way) and Washington serves more of the destination street if you will. In contrast, Woodward and Euclid are the clear grand dames in their respective cities not just in downtown but also as they work themselves down the central corridor.
I do believe Olive has potential to be a successful area for dt retail, especially since Culinaria is there, but it isn't clear to me that it is a more natural fit over Washington, which kind of feels more fashionable to me. And I think congregating retail is key for getting things off the ground.

Any word on what the now closed Prime 1000 space may become?

An occupancy permit was approved for the space September 21, 2015 for "FULL DRINK RESTAURANT W/SIDEWALK SEATING/FRT EAST SIDE." But I have heard nothing.

Prime closed a few weeks ago. Shift should be opening soon next to Rooster.

Unless Dunkin Donuts completely cedes the chain market to Tim Ho's, I suspect we'll see one or more of their planned new locations in the Downtown/Midtown/CWE area:

Yay, burnt tasting coffee plus donuts that are made at a central commissary, frozen, trucked to the DD store and then warmed up?roger wyoming II wrote:Unless Dunkin Donuts completely cedes the chain market to Tim Ho's, I suspect we'll see one or more of their planned new locations in the Downtown/Midtown/CWE area:

^ Dee-lish!
It looks like what will be going into the Prime 1000 spot isn't the only culinary mystery downtown.... presby also reports Bailey's has a $240K permit for a restaurant build out in the building at 10th and Locust that also has Big Shark.

Roger -- I represent this franchisee group and Downtown St Louis is not part of his territory.roger wyoming II wrote:Unless Dunkin Donuts completely cedes the chain market to Tim Ho's, I suspect we'll see one or more of their planned new locations in the Downtown/Midtown/CWE area:

Yet more intrigue; there is a occupancy permit application in for a bar/restaurant for the old Left Bank Books spot. This would be at the same 10th and Locust intersection where Bailey appears to also be up to something across the street.
So we seem to have three rather substantial mysteries...
-- Who's taking up the Prime 1000 spot?
-- What's Bailey planning for 1004 Locust?
-- What's cooking for the Left Bank Book space?
