Looks like a dry cleaners is opening part of the Adler Lofts retail space.... nice to see something opening up in that dead zone. i also wonder if the developer of the firehouse property down the block has a retail tenant secured; that could be a really cool space.
nice addition to Tucker & Washington

Also, 314 "A City Bar" coming to NE corner of Washington and Tucker.
I thought it might go into the space vacated by Empire, but he responded instead that it's slated for the "larger space next-door that was going to be a diner a couple of years ago."
cool!

^ That was briefly a diner a couple years ago. I ate there once; wasn't great.

It was the 12th street diner for a few years then it closed. Then a diner called King Louie's was supposed to open but never did.

^ yeah, 12th Street Diner. i didn't realize it was open for several years. thought it was shorter than that.

Reflecting on the the action since Medina and Star Clipper opened in the Spring, things have been rather impressive.... there's been at least a dozen new street level spots taken and a couple nice centralizing moves (Sauce on Side. Mango) with quite a few more to come by the end of the year. And there have only been a few closures over the same period... I wouldn't doubt one or two of the established places will close -- that happens everywhere -- but it is so nice to see the case of the BPV Blues solidly conquered.
Now if we can only get more retail goods instead of food & beverage we'll really be swinging.... just not sure how close we are to reaching that point.

Here's more on that A2 Cafe that will open on Washington around the corner from the soon-to-be-opened Boom Boom Room.

I'd really like to see new infill along Lucas from 9th Street on west to provide a stronger customer base for all the establishments along Washington.roger wyoming II wrote:Reflecting on the the action since Medina and Star Clipper opened in the Spring, things have been rather impressive.... there's been at least a dozen new street level spots taken and a couple nice centralizing moves (Sauce on Side. I have a pretty serious casein allergy (causes breathing difficulty, etc), and my doc has me on a 99% gluten free diet. Sounds like I'll be checking this place out. I hope the food is good.roger wyoming II wrote:Here's more on that A2 Cafe that will open on Washington around the corner from the soon-to-be-opened Boom Boom Room.

Went there the other day.... not a coffee shop per se but a little store with gifts, snacks, etc. as well as fresh coffee and baked goods for on the go. Very nice woman runs it and the place is worth stepping into.debaliviere wrote:In the old Espresso Mod space?roger wyoming II wrote:Looks like a coffee shop called The Perch will open soon at one of the previously vacant storefronts in the Paul Brown Building (210 N. 9th St.)
Looks like Shift, Bailey's test kitchen and takeout place around the corner from Rooster, is making progress.

Looks like Gilbert landed Nike for downtown Detroit:

I think a Nike or Under Armour store would do well at BPV -- along with a Rawlings shop, of course.

I don't think BPV would work well for retail without residential or commercial office towers.

^ My vision is for something like Nike or Under Armour to go in as part of street-level retail with mixed-use above.... I wouldn't mind if a coffee shop or whatever opened as well as part of future phases, but I think BPV could draw a couple regional retail draws with some smart planning. What I'd hate to see is just more restaurants/entertainment.
Does anyone have an update on when Sugarfire, Porano Pasta & Gelato, and Kitchen Sink are supposed to open on Washington Avenue?
I sent Kitchen Sink a message on FB, but received no response.
I saw on STLToday that Sugarfire might not open until next year "...expects franchise restaurants to open in Valley Park and Washington soon, knock on applewood. Next year? Look for Sugarfire on Washington Avenue downtown." http://www.stltoday.com/lifestyles/food ... 68a50.html
All I've seen on Porano is that they are coming soon on their FB page, but that was August 28th. https://www.facebook.com/PoranoPasta/timeline
Also, not sure if this has been mentioned or not, but the National Blues Museum has been pushed back to early 2016 according to their website. https://www.nationalbluesmuseum.org/

Kitchen Sink is set to be up first with an opening hopefully later this month... Feast actually just covered it today:

I believe Porano is planned for a late November opening and Sugarfire in early '16.

Thanks! I tried looking up Kitchen Sink yesterday and should have checked again today!
Tim Horton's is going into the Park Pacific at Olive and Tucker. They will have a drive thru

Glad they are coming downtown. So dumb they need a drive through. I actually think a spot near Culinaria would be a better location.

^^ will it be like the other drive thru at Park Pacific where you have to drive in the building?
- 8,155
Not sure I follow the Culinaria reference.downtown2007 wrote:Glad they are coming downtown. So dumb they need a drive through. I actually think Culinaria would be a better location.
It'll be good to have some more street-level activity on Tucker... iirc the space available for lease is pretty large so I wonder if the Tim Horton's will take it all up or if there will be some left vacant.
- 3,235
With the reno of the Arcade and a growing area I personally think it would make more sense to have a donut/coffee shop in that area.
- 8,155
^ I see... you meant by the Culinaria? I remain optimistic we'll see something nice in the cafe spot slated for the Pine St. corner of the Arcade project. And for the old Sauce spot. Anyway, it's nice to see TH's downtown and take up retail space.
