Anyone know anything about the Mission Taco/Salt & Smoke/Ranoush space in the CWE?

As we all know, burned last summer, seemingly been gutted and now, nothing.

Hoping that it can open back up in time for late Spring, but not looking good for that, let alone a re-opening period. (I only say that because of the many many many months of inactivity.)

Mission Taco and Salt and Smoke are both struggling to fill positions in their current open locations, I doubt they are in any hurry to get these back up and running

Add on top of that:
-this thing has to be an insurance/liability nightmare with multiple buildings and businesses
-there's also a shortage of labor for cleanup
-there's not really a fast track option for construction

I can't speak for Mission Taco, but I can say that Salt + Smoke is doing pretty well and that one of the employees that I know believes that they will be opening a location in Edwardsville at some point.

In other news, a suburban St. Louis pretzel chain, Pretzel Pretzel, will be opening two locations in St. Louis city -- one at Ballpark Village and the other near Barney's Sports Pub on Chippewa.

All understandable considerations but it's such a prominent block on the CWE.  those places being gone really undercuts some of the neighborhoods vibrancy.  and, I want ribs/tacos.

^There was an announcement on Twitter of demo permits for the damage, so I guess they're at least getting started. Trying to recall who that was. DB maybe?

Surprised we're getting another pretzel joint that close to Pretzel Boys on Hampton.

I didn't see that tweet.

To be sure, there has been work on the building.  There's been demo in fits/spurts and the demo could in fact be done.

It's just been many many weeks since activity and I think it's going slow (with zero context/familiarity on how long it takes to rebuild after a fire.)

I just want that block back!

I don't think anyone is arguing with you regarding that point.

If this had happened 5 years ago my guess is they'd already be on to construction by now.

I thought the same thing when the owners told me.

They say they're going to try to find more places to put Pretzel Pretzel in the Central Corridor, but are focused on these first two locations at this time.

Walking distance for me! If only it wasn't a nightmare to cross Chippewa.

St. Louis restaurateur Ben Poremba plans Jewish deli in Delmar Divine development
St. Louis restauranteur Ben Poremba is gearing up to open his latest concept, a New York-style Jewish deli called Deli Divine and located at the Delmar Divine project in the West End neighborhood.
Construction is underway, and Poremba is targeting a March 1 opening for the business, 5501 Delmar Blvd. Costs totaled $600,000, and construction is being handled by St. Peters-based Cissell Mueller Construction Inc.

A three-time James Beard Award semi-finalist, Poremba said his new concept is more fast-casual in nature than his other restaurants, and will employ 18 workers. Poremba's Bengelina Hospitality Group operates Olio, Elaia, Nixta and The Benevolent King.
Deli Divine will serve matzah ball soup, chicken salad and other foods, but also feature a market with a selection of ingredients, prepared foods and wines, Poremba said.

I heard that a restaurant by the name of 'Crazy Margaritas' -- or something very similar-- will be going into the old Alta Calle spot on South Grand.

Upstairs on the second floor of the same building will be Kenny's Upstairs, a bar from Kenny Marks of Indo and other popular St. Louis bars.

And what's the deal with the MoZay space? Is it fully open?

So is the NW corner also a different owner than MoZay? Because based on MoZay's hours it appears they have zero interest in the hockey night crowd.

Fire update for the building located at
2017 Chouteau Ave.
As many of you know the building that Vin de Set, Moulin Events & Meetings, PW Pizza and 21st Brewer's Bar occupied for the last 16 years suffered a devastating rooftop fire that started in the very early morning hours of September 19th, 2022, the fire spread ultimately destroying the entire rooftop deck.  It was later determined, through video footage, that the fire was caused by patrons smoking in a non-smoking area who then extinguished their cigarettes in one of our hanging rooftop planters. The fire slowly spread from the planter over several hours ultimately destroying the entire rooftop deck.  While the fire itself was mostly contained to the rooftop area, the water used to extinguish it severely damaged all levels from the 2nd floor down to the basement.
After making structural repairs, replacing the roof, 3rd floor windows and removing all floors and drywall below, it became very clear that this was an enormous remediation and re-hab undertaking. Our businesses were built over the course of 16 years through continued re-investment, and now we find ourselves at the very beginning again.
After months of obtaining bids to rebuild and carry out the necessary fire remediation as well as determining the insurance loss limits, it has become clear that the funds necessary to rebuild the structure as it once was just aren't there to do so.
It is with a heavy heart that we are announcing the permanent closer of Vin de Set, PW Pizza and 21st Street Brewer's Bar.
Moulin which offers parties in multiple other locations nearby, Eleven Eleven Mississippi, Hamilton's Urban Steakhouse and Winnie's Wine Bar are not affected by this decision and are open for business as usual.  Several of our team members who were displaced by the fire, work at these locations and we encourage you to visit them in the near future as they would love to reconnect with all of you who have gotten to know them over the years.
We thank you for all your patronage, support and great memories since these businesses opened and hope to continue to serve you in one of our other locations in the future.
Paul & Wendy Hamilton

Either they have a crap insurance policy or they are taking this opportunity to scale down.  Staffing that many restaurants is tough, even if housed in the same building.

A shame, they were one of if the first rooftop dining places in STL and I really enjoyed 21st street brewer's bar patio and basement vibe.

What’s to become of the building? Demolition isn’t on the table, is it?
