They did that two weeks ago! Hopefully they reopen soon!

Pi needs to reopen ASAP only place I can have Chicago deep dish! Refuse to go to CWE! I only want to do DT businesses.

Pi is not Chicago deep dish.
Is a copy of it. But still is the only place that makes it close enough that I don’t have to go back home on the weekends lol

There's numerous differences, but yes it's the closest we'll get here until Giordano's or Lou Malnati's opens in St. Louis.

Giordanos is garbage lol… Lou Malnatis is the best one hands down!

I won't go that strongly but completely agree that Malnati's is clearly my favorite. The problem is Giordano's franchises and they've listed St. Louis as a target. Malnati's are family owned so a possible expansion here is much more questionable.

That being said, if one of these two Chicago pizza mainstays opened here I think they would be pretty successful.

Random, does anyone know of a sushi train/conveyer belt sushi restaurant in St. Louis. I was just in CA for two weeks and we visited one. It was so fun, easy, and relatively affordable. If STL doesn’t have one, we NEED one. It would sure be a hit.

I’m a huge Blackthorn fan but I don’t really know if I lump it in with Chicago style. It’s better than traditional Chicago style. It is deep dish like Chicago style it isn’t sauce on top like you normally see with it. A variation I guess. Their sauce though, really good.

I like it too - a lot.  I described the sauce with a hint of BBQ flavor and less traditional marinara.

I think one of the Sushi Ai's used to have one, dunno if they still do or not. And there was a the Tokyo Seafood Buffet on Olive that did, but that's long gone.

Honestly, they're pretty gimmicky, and the quality of the sushi you get at them is pretty suspect outside of Japan (and even then not always perfect).

I'd probably stick with Sushi Ai's unlimited apps/sushi/rolls, since it's a better dining experience for the money, IMO.

Went to try it tonight and the food is amazing. One down side is they're still waiting for a liquor license, owner/chef said he's had 30 tables walk out since opening when people find out drinks aren't available yet but he's working through the process fast.

He's very bullish on Downtown, said he came here from Miami (him and his wife are military, he's retired after being a nuclear medicine in the army, she's still active) said before they moved here he heard about crime but was surprised how little his actually encountered compared to Miami

In regards to the Dam closing mentioned above - makes me think we're going to see the patio expand all the way to Tres Equis?

It would be pretty cool if Amsterdam Tavern could take over that entire building.

It'd also be neat if they could do what the Union Station tavern seemingly will not -- move away from American food and embrace more European food options.

I think it would fit the nature of that Morgan Ford strip, too. It's become a biking hot spot, a coffee hot spot, has London Tea Room, and a scooter dealership. All feel pretty European.

They will keep slaying. That place is busy on cold, grey Tuesdays during the winter.

On a related note it sounds like Heavy Riff in Dogtown has their patio mostly done and that it was busy last night.

$378k building permit issued for a St. Louis Bread Co at 25 S Euclid. It also appears a PokeDoke is moving from across the street.

This happened a while ago, but Debaliviere Place staple 2Schae Cafe has closed their location in 275 on the Park. They'll be doing brunch at Mack's on Pershing on the weekends, but are otherwise semi-retired. Their main reason was a that pipe issue that forced them to close for months, but also because of the change in property owners. Apparently the new management is raising rent significantly for the entire building. West End Bistro left the building the same week 2Schae announced their leaving, so all of the building's retail is empty now.

It’s wild to me that Pershing, perhaps our densest street, only really has Mack’s and a Vegan Cafe. So many potential customers, and there is space for cafes and restaurants/bars but no one is moving in. I know Expo will be adding some things and I’m working on a personal business concept for the Hudson space, but beyond that, the remainder of the street down to Union is relatively quiet.
