Looks like we're getting another rooftop restaurant/bar downtown - Eero's Penthouse.  It's the top of Indigo Hotel @ N Broadway & Olive.
RETRO ROOFTOP BAR IN ST. LOUIS: REWIND TO 1960S GLAM
You can witness Eero Saarinen's sophisticated style across the city skyline - he's the architect who designed the iconic Gateway Arch. But you can only experience his glamorous lifestyle at Eero's, a new imagining of the architect's sky-high home.

Gather with an exclusive crowd for an intimate 1960s penthouse party with punch bowls and midcentury cocktails. Discover delicious nibbles and sip innovative libations from expert mixologists. Relish stellar views of the Arch. Transform casual happy hours and private parties into memorable moments in time at our rooftop bar in St. Louis.
I reached out to the Regional Director of Operations, and he told me once they're fully staffed they'll open.  He said the new bar manager started this week, and the GM is starting next week, so it should be soon.  And it will be open the public, not just hotel guests. 🍺

Hope it is better than the downstairs bar. It used to be great when it first opened right before Covid, but it's been really bad lately (bartenders cannot even make properly some basic drinks).

Stl Mag - Nadine’s Hash House opens this weekend near Soulard
Nadine’s Hash House (1802 S. Broadway) is opening right on schedule. This Saturday, April 23, owner Nadine Soaib, who previously ran Nadine’s Gin Joint in Soulard, will open the restaurant, located just a block east of the Soulard Market, in the space formerly occupied by Billie’s Fine Foods. The restaurant will be open from 7 a.m.–2 p.m. daily.

^Definitely not during the week. I have been coming to the office every day of the week for some time now and go there every day after lunch, haven't yet bumped into a closed door.
It’s happened on a Thursday and a Sunday; both times around 10:30ish.
They are usually consistent with their hours stated so I don’t know. They were closed some weekends in January and February but are now back open Saturday and Sunday.
Park Avenue Coffee in the old Starbucks at 6th and Olive is most definitely closed on weekends. Their hours on the door say it. Their google listings says that. They were not open yesterday at 1pm. The original one on 10th is supposedly open weekends.

Then they updated it.

Sorry for offending you.

No offense. Just never seen it open on a weekend in my infrequent visits and happened to be walking past yesterday and wondered about the hours. Guess they gave weekends a very short try.

I realize places are short-staffed, but that has to be costing them business even when they are open, people just getting frustrated with ever-changing hours and making coffee/food at home.

Some tourists were asking where to get a coffee recently at like 1:45 on a weekend. I couldn't even think of where to direct them.

They close at 2pm during the week. If we want coffee after that we typically go to Cafe de Blaire, but no idea if they're open on weekends.

The definite answer;

Park Ave on 10th is open on the weekends if staff is available

Park Ave on 6th is not open on the weekends.

We've given up and just head over to the Lafayette Park one.

STL Magazine: Maryland House by Brennan’s to open in former Mandarin Lounge on Maryland Plaza

The new space will be bigger than the old Maryland House; with a couple private rooms as well as its standard public spaces; that big ass deck overlooking Maryland Ave; space for both a band and a DJ; a bigger food menu; and even will be selling artwork on site. Kevin Brennan's already running the regular Brennan's with excess staff as they plan to rotate workers to the new space once it opens sometime this fall.

Seriously considering buying a membership now that this is coming online soon.

Maybe a dumb question but were all tips not going to staff? And if they weren’t, isn’t that odd?

New wine bar and shop coming to Midtown, near Fountain and Egg.
Going for funky vibe.  If they can do something similar to Vino STL should be good!

Any arrangement where all the tips were not going to staff is illegal.

Locoz Tacos and the Dam, two restaurants on Morganford, have closed or are closing soon.

My assumption is that they're just trying to say "hey, if you wanted to leave a huge final tip (like $50 or $100) for your favorite staff member, just know they'll get it" or something like that.

Wow, sorry to hear that. Watched a game at Locoz not all that long ago. Was a pleasant little place. (And absolutely packed to the gills.) Surprised they're closing. Best luck to all of them, and the folks at the Dam too, in their new businesses. You know if Amsterdam owns the spaces or what will happen to them? Always seemed like both were closely connected to Amsterdam. (Particularly the Dam.)

As I understood it the Tapped people were paid a decent flat rate. ($20+/hour)

I know the Dam was connected to Amsterdam Tavern and while I think this is a big loss for the neighborhood, I would also think this could be a good opportunity for someone to step in with a new concept to match the soccer theme next door and perhaps capitalize on St. Louis City SC coming online next year.

My wife said that she spoke with someone at The Dam and they mentioned 'the lady who ran the dam is switching gears to catering' and that they've had a lot of staffing issues... FWIW

Staffing issues are going to kill the restaurant biz as we know it. So many otherwise profitable places closing because they can't find enough workers.

^Sounds like they are not truly profitable if they cannot pay prevailing market wages

^Rather presumptuous to say that... Amidst a highly inflationary environment; while still emerging from the global pandemic that directly led to a massive change in consumer purchasing nationwide; all with product shortages due to busted global supply chains. To just infer with no context that they must have been cheap and incapable of properly running a business? After they'd won neighborhood popularity awards since 2017?

Maybe, just maybe, the business owner is telling the truth as she's closing her livelihood - and maybe doesn't deserve internet snark over it.
Times are getting hard again. We should be better to and with each other.
How the hell am I the one sounding like a hippie here?
