I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I want St. Louis to be a city of diverse dining and entertainment options and thus I found this interesting.
After running a successful pop up event, the Vegan Deli & Butcher in St. Charles has suddenly closed. It seems this is happening in part because the deli quickly outgrew its space, and perhaps in part because the vegan chef may be difficult to work with.
I think something like this belongs on Manchester in The Grove. If there's a huge market for this in St. Charles, there has to be an even bigger one in the city.

interesting... it would be great if they could find a place in the city. there have always been a handful of good vegetarian options, but pretty limited compared to other cities. and it gets depressing when you have fifty new BBQ places opening while vegetarians and vegans are perpetually stuck with the same few options. with more and more people eating veg, increased food diversity would make the city more appealing to transplants.

A new vegan "nice cream" place is opening in The Grove. Beyond that, how many vegan restaurants does that neighborhood offer?
Confluence Kombucha does vegan food, according to google, and I think Everest has a few options on their menu.
A vegan deli would be hugely successful in this neighborhood. I'm pretty convinced.

Grand is really the vegan/veggie friendly strip: The Vine, LuLu's, Pizza Head, Treehouse, and many other Vegan-friendly spots.

Speaking of pizzerias, Pizzeria Da Gloria has moved into the old Amighetti's space. I've heard a few good things already.
Amighetti's also appears to be getting a little closer to moving into the Hanneke Hardware building.

Assuming there really is more demand in the city, I would assume the city also has a lot more competition. It's true that there may be more competition in the city, but I don't see how it would be enough to squash the potential.
I just suspect that a vegan "butcher" shop would do pretty well if given the chance, especially in a neighborhood like The Grove or Central West End where those options seem limited.
I imagine a vegan "butcher" shop having an assortment of goods and that it would essentially serve as a small grocery store.
That said, now that I'm thinking about it, I remember reading about how Golden Grocer offers ready-to-go vegan meals in The Grove.

Unless they find a way to get the city to reduce it I assume this means they will be closing or moving.
I think there are far better businesses that could thrive and add life to the Cupples area than Wheelhouse and Start Bar.

Maybe... but how often have we seen a business move out and then the building sit vacant for years and years. Like it or not, these 2 businesses activated this area, so now an entire city block will be dead, once again.
Don’t the owners also own the Midwestern, or am I mistaken? Do we think they’ll hold onto that location if they’ve just gotten the boot? If they close as well, add another empty space to the list.
