Surprising given the circumstances and in spite of the closures: August 2020 saw more restaurant openings than August 2019
https://www.kmov.com/news/as-pandemic-l ... e1b36.html

Seems like there is a lot of creative destruction going on, as many of the places that closed down were not very good and the places opening up look quite interesting.

That little strip of South Jefferson is getting spicy. Coffee Stamp, Lucky Accomplice on the corner, now a nice storefront buildout on one of the buildings in between.

Hopefully the Way Out Club can get a refresh in the future..

^I don't expect the Way Out Club to do any renovations anytime soon; they kind of rely on their dingy-retro look.

Not in the city but Diego's (Mexican) in U city looks like it is about to open. They their website says hiring and I noticed a new awning over the restaurant is up with the new name on it. Was Momo's, which closed down probably 2 years ago now. On North and South at Delmar

Imagine if they had anchored a new building at Lindell and Euclid

The restaurants that left could always become tenants in a hypothetical Lindell / Euclid building too.

Pharaoh's Donuts just opened a second location in the Central West End. Should be a great addition to the neighborhood.

At this point, with Winter coming and the pandemic completely out of control, I predict an extremely dire season for restaurants and bars. So far many have been able to hang on due to outdoor dining. That now becomes unfeasible with a few exceptions, and people do not really seem ready to go back to dining indoors. This is completely anecdotal, but I do not know a single person who is willing to eat in a restaurant indoors.

^I've eaten at a few, but with one exception they've been pretty much dead and I've been nervous every time. (I vowed not to repeat the exception.) I'm not really sure how anything is hanging on as is. My one hope is that maybe we can sweat it out until a real stimulus package arrives in February, but I fear a great many things will be brutal before then and for some time after. :(

I have no reservations about eating indoors. Nearly all places I've ate at locally and out of state have done a good job sanitizing and keeping distance.

oh wow this is great.  They hands down have my favorite tradition fried and glazed donuts in St. Louis.

I haven't been downtown, but last night I heard the restaurants at the MX are in danger of closing - Pi, CBW in particular and then also Sugarfire?

Looks like the new Brennan's in the CWE had a fire.  Was quickly put out...no injuries.

^Well, they picked the right time to be closed down for a remodel. I don't expect that sort of thing is ever good, but better now when they won't lose much business anyway than in six months when everything is (hopefully) hopping.
