I doubt the originally proposed towers are built. They proposed like 50+ story towers. With the AT&T tower going empty, I do not think the demand is there. If any highrise residential were to be built, I would think Ballpark Village is a more likely place.

It really is a downer, when you think of how many great proposals were never built. Back in 2006 (around then) you had the Bottle District, Original Ballpark Village and Skyhouse. Roberts Tower was the only one actually built. It has yet to come together. I hope some of that pre-recession momentum comes back. Those projects alone, would have transformed the St. Louis skyline. It bothers me that the BP Village site is so under-utilized. (I know... off topic.. sorry!) :D

None of the BD towers were going to be offices, they were all residential. If Clayco and Paul McKee believe they can make those towers happen, then I hope they go ahead and do it. That seems to be what they are saying now. I wouldn't even be surprised if they started on these before BPV got their towers up, either.

I was wondering what is up with the rumored Bosnia vs. US friendly match, on March 5th. The only article, goes back over a month. Doesn't look good for that game happening. Too bad! :(

PostJan 16, 2014#730

It is official, no US vs. Bosnia friendly on 3/5/14.

Hopefully, this game will happen at some point, down the road, at Busch. The US will play Ukraine, at a location, yet to be determined.

Louligans FC would make for a good soccer club name. It's original, local, and fun.

I hate to be cynical about this but it's getting a little old hearing about what a fantastic soccer town we are and what an amazing fit it would be.....we just don't have the money. If there really is no financial backing then it shouldn't be dangled in our face. If there is then we should be told something of substance about why exactly we are being considered. Is it our awesome soccer heritage (which will get us nowhere), or is it people like Stan or Paul McKee laying down tracks in the background? Too much rhetoric and conjecture surrounding our situation. While the international matches we recently hosted were a huge success, why are we the best soccer town in America that couldn't keep smaller franchises when we had them?

^I don't think you are being cynical. There has been a ton of talk, but no actions, at least that we know of. St. Louis is a great soccer town, great fanbase, great history, would be a great MLS market. You are right. Nobody with cash has stepped up. Too bad the August Busch's of the world, do not seem to be soccer fans. We need that kind of money. It is all about a venue and always will be. If St. Louis had an outdoor NFL facility, we would have likely had a team back when MLS was formed. It has always been about a venue. I think quality ownership could be lured here, with a venue. I do not think St. Louis is much of a minor-league town. AC St. Louis was a good idea, but poorly run, underfunded and not marketed properly. That has been the case with past teams. Until we get a big-money owner, it isn't happening here. This owner will have to build the venue and get the team. I think Garber wants to think of STL as a viable market, but until a venue is built, it will not happen, simple as that! KC, for example, was lucky to have Arrowhead and rich owners. That morphed into what is now Sporting KC. They almost lost the Wizards. Nobody wanted to watch soccer in that large, half-empty venue. That is why a rich owner must build a venue . Simple as that!

The demise of AC StL had nothing to do with supporters

KC had Lamar Hunt in 1994, who owned half the league - which is why they have a team

The Lions and the Louigans are teasing this week about an announcement this week - most likely USL pro that has been rumored since last fall - this is basically AAA - maybe affiliated with a MLS team (Sporting rumor is not as hot as it was, as they may be looking elsewhere)

Stay tuned

^Such a tease. If it the Lions are being elevated to USLPro Level to replace Orlando I hope everyone who has been begging for a chance to watch outdoor soccer chance is ready to support it. I realize it's not MLS but it would be a strong step that direction. If we miss this round of MLS expansion I think we have to be at the top of the list for next round in 4-5 years.

Hopefully a USLPro team will find a good home in the St. Louis region. (as in Not St. Peters) I kind of want them near the Hill as a nod to the history of that neighborhood. My preference is on Manchester between the Hill and Dogtown, or on S. Kingshighway between The Hill and Bevo.

Here you go - as rumored for months looks to be a partnership between Ambush and Lions w/ Glavin acting as coach - no details (will have to get moving if they start play this year)

looks like a much better situation then the AC situation which ran across big problems early on

Details and official announcement forthcoming

St. Louis - this is our audition

I have no idea how reliable this is, but if this is true, this will solidify my belief that Stan Kroenke is moving the Rams to LA/Inglewood. Why would LA need a 3rd MLS team!!? Looks like our MLS/Rams venue will become a reality, in LA!!

I see this as extremely unlikely. They don't even credit a source.

Keep in mind the possibility, though, that Kroenke could build a soccer-specific stadium on the site he just purchased as well, though. It's been repeated over and over that the 60 acres he's bought can certainly fit an NFL stadium and parking, but that it's not necessarily ideal.

Perhaps it's the perfect size for an MLS stadium, though.

That may be grasping at straws though, but I wouldn't put much stock into the above report right now anyways.

^ I can't disagree. I've never heard of the site, but it comes off as a legit soccer site. Who knows where they got the info, but it is not good news, if it is true. Even if the Rams and the LA Gunners rumor are not related, at the very least, this would end any speculation, that Stan will bring MLS to St. Louis. The best case, would be that the Rams stay and the St. Louis Gunners, become our MLS franchise. Many have noted how cool that would be. We'd get a ton of Arsenal fans interested in St. Louis and the MLS version of the Gunners. Hopefully, the site quoted a bad source that mixed up LA and STL. :D

Unlikely - Chivas is already a disaster - there is talk that is constantly denied by the league that Chivas will move to another part of CA, - anyway I am sure Garber would not happy about 4 California teams

I wonder what their source is, nothing has been an the radar about LA, though Sacramento has been getting some attention, but it was considered a long shot

That spot would work a lot better for a 20,000 seat soccer stadium than an 70, 80 or 90,000 seat football stadium. Remember, the old Forum is across the street.

Interesting twist to all of this...

In 1934, the independent St. Louis Gunners replaced the NFL Cincinnati Reds who had folded mid-season. The Gunners then left the NFL and their spot was taken by the Cleveland Rams. The Rams would of course move to LA in 1946 and St. Louis in 1995.

Would be kind of funny if the creation of a new St. Louis Gunners "football" team ended up securing the Rams future in St. Louis.
