Friday May 30th -

I think a Friday date will attract more then the November Monday game at Busch, and we get to see Drogba

Honestly if we host 2 or 3 of these a year I would be happy as a clam

We need a USMNT game now
It was awesome to see all the Bosnian-Americans at Lambert after the match.... I hope they are able to come from far and wide again.

btw, those lucky freaks out it KC will be able to see a friendly with Manchester City and their local club.

The article doesn't have a rendering of Miami's proposed MLS stadium but some good details of the stadium proposed location on port property next to downtown, vision, and on cost, up to $200 million in start up financing that I don't believe covers the franchise fees. Stadium being designed in part by 360 of KC.

Beckham's Group Unveils Plans for MLS Stadium at Miami Port
03/24/2014

http://enr.construction.com/yb/enr/arti ... YxkeE6T5QO

The master plans encompasses an adjacent civic plaza and commercial space, including office buildings and hotels. A pedestrian walkway would enable fans to "march to the match" across a bridge from downtown through renovation of an existing drawbridge that is not being used.

It would be a walk of 7 or 8 minutes from AmericanAirlines Arena . MLS games would not be scheduled when the Miami Heat is playing to avoid a clash of crowds that would overwhelm the downtown area.

The layuout of the stadium is patterned after many European venues with steep seating to bring fans as close to the action as possible. The design caters to the urban subtropical surroundings with glass on the exterior and a contour to make the skyline as visible as possible. It would have a roof covering seating areas.

The stadium would contain a nightclub that would be open year round.

Looks like ATL is getting franchise #23. There might be one more out there before 2020.

LOL i doubt we'll ever get the Hawks back. So far things look bleak for St.Louis in getting a expansion MLS team

Minneapolis will most likely be 24 - it will be a few years till expansion happens again - maybe a long time -

Still waiting on the USL-Pro announcement, beginning to wonder if that is going to happen, was suppose to be in early March.

PostApr 28, 2014#783

sooo..... for the umpteenth time, there is a press conference scheduled for later this week - presumably to announce a USL pro for St. Louis - Looks like they are hinting that it could be affiliated with the Chicago Fire - Of course we have been down this road before

PostMay 01, 2014#784

Official, well semi-official -Owned by Scott Gallagher, which should be a good fit, affiliated with the Fire.

More tomorrow at noon

More information on the new team. This is great for St. Louis nationally.

Let the name debate begin. Any ideas? Some I've heard and liked in the past:

AC St. Louis
St. Louis FC
St. Louis SC
Olympic St. Louis
St. Louis Kings
Spirit of St. Louis

No WMBA (no offense) names please. Impact, Kicks, Sparks, Storm, Shocks, Gun Shots.....no.

Also, although I like the green and silver color-scheme used by SG, I really think the City flag and it's colors are a no-brainer for development of the jersey (color and logo).

Color scheme will more likely be Navy/Black and White. They are working on ideas, names, logos now and ask for public input in the coming months.

Anything but FC St. Louis or St. Louis FC. We already have a football club. They're called the Rams.

What's the deal with the Louligans and the Chupacabra thing? Are they serious about proposing that as the team name or is that tongue-in-cheek?

I guess there's no possible way they could play somewhere a little more centrally-located than out in Fenton, huh.

I think the Saint Louis TIFs would be just about the perfect name.

It is a inside joke with The Louligans about trying to catch a mystical beast that doesn't exist. For us the beast is a MLS team. The team won't be named Chupacabra.

As much as I want the team to be centrally located, (the idea of taking the metrolink from my house to a game would be awesome) Fenton is the better choice for now. SLSG owns soccer park so it doesn't make sense to have them play anywhere else at this time. Now if people come out and support the team, more than 5000+ a game, they would out grow the facilities and need a new location. Or move up to MLS.

FYI, most new MLS teams have moved up from the lower ranks, with good attendance.

SLU has a really nice soccer stadium which seats 6,050 and is only about a 10 minute walk from Metrolink.

Scheduling a game or two there could go a long way toward getting city/inner-ring fans interested, engaged, and more willing to make the trek out to Fenton.

I would certainly go to more games if I didn't need a car to get there. Hopefully they can get a stadium near a MetroLink station eventually, even if it's not in the city.

^^ The SLU idea is fantastic. Right now, I understand why Soccer Park was chosen, but perhaps having a few games at Herman Stadium could prove to the ownership that an urban core location is better. Of course, thats assuming attendance in Fenton won't reach 5,000 each game.

I would be very happy with a friendly being played there, but they won't move a home game there. They would lose revenue from field fees, parking, and no alcohol sales. They need to get financially stable first (that's what killed AC STL).

What could be awesome is if we could hold a St Louis Open Cup. Invite all teams from STL to play in a tourney to determine the best team. Just like the Gold Cup but for St. Louis teams only (college level and up). Could play at multiple stadiums around STL.

It's a ~20min drive guys in rush hour. This is Fenton NOT Eureka.

Per Google Maps commute times are as follows.

Downtown Clayton to soccer park 16miles/18min
Downtown St. Louis to soccer park 17miles/18min

I make this drive every day to work. Someone with a heavy foot and closer to the on ramp can make the drive in under 15min.

There is a nearby bus stop .3miles from the soccer park.

17 miles is still too far of a drive  kidding i don't mind driving and fenton pretty much right off 270 so its not like you're driving to Tulsa and i believe if they have a continued great showing in attendance then possibly they'll thinking about playing games in the city or even moving into the city....
