AC St. Louis didn't build a stadium nor did they play behind the Chrysler plants. T

Not trying to imply AC STL built it although i can see how you read it that way. Who built it doesn't change the fact of where it was built and the fact that that is where AC STL played their home games. It certainly kept me from going as it was simply too far out of the way.

Saying its not behind the chrysler plant is at best nitpicking. Its isolated back there was the point and it stands as true.

oh the sad saga of AC STL, lesson learned - don't trust English interlopers and forget about Fenton - the Soccer Park is fine for high school games - but the layout is outdate.

StL is popping up in the conversation more and more, even garnering some attention on March to the Match - the official MLS podcast - a St. Louis postcard is even featured on the intro graphic. Its unusual that we are being discussed because there is no ownership group even hinted about one. Who knows if something is happening behind the scenes? secrets that big are usually hard to keep so I doubt it.

One thing is for sure if Garber wanted a team here, they would find a way, Becks looks like he will get his team in Miami, might bring in Lebron as a minority owner.

We are getting a NPSL team thou - looks like a Bosnian connection - do not know where they will play -

Does anyone else find the name "Orlando City" a bit ironic

We've had this argument before. It just comes down to money and having enough available to spend. If we had a Beckham ready and willing to drop money on a team, we would have one already. Its not that complicated. We've proven as a city, soccer is viable here. We don't need a minor league team to show that. We need cash.

Why does St. Louis need to "prove" itself with a minor league team when that hasn't been the case in other cities? Just asking.

So ironic that Alanis Morisette should add it as a line to her song.

USL-PRO talk again, this time as the minors for The Wiz....er....Sporting KC - previously affiliated with the newly minted MLS Orlando City

Would be a good step if we are going the 10 year route - which it appears we are

In his state of the league address today Garber brought up 5 potential expansion cities for the last 3 spots (brings MLS up to 24 teams) there will be expansion after that but that is a ways out

potential cities -

Minneapolis - New stadium for Vikes in the works - second tenant - few potential owners
San Antonio - Potential ownership group existing - stadium that can be expanded
Miami - done deal according to some - Becks reported to be scouting sites for stadium
Atlanta - New stadium for Falcons in the works - second tenant - few potential owners

and

St. Louis - No stadium, no ownership group

The last time we were seriously considered seriously was early 2008 - since the collapse of Coopers attempt the league has not motioned St. Louis at all

Nice that the league has us on the radar -

Mystery - Why does the league have us on the radar - they have often said no one will be considered until there is a stadium proposal and ownership group - we have neither

Let t the speculation commence

That's pretty cool. I'd guess its mostly because of the successes we've had lately with the three games played here and our history. I think they recognize the strong soccer support here. Maybe they're are trying to entice an owner to come forward?

Garber just said any potential new stadium in any new market would be in the "urban core" - mentioned StL and Minne by name

If this is true, I'd like to know what Beckham is smoking, because it's good stuff.

http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow ... z2mRdRRGn1
The latest news has Beckham planning a 75,000-seat stadium in the Miami area, one that would be surrounded by shops and a hotel. Beckham has reportedly already scouted out a location -- although he's not saying where that is.
This must be some sort of combo deal to share a new stadium with the Dolphins since the last Miami MLS team folded because they barely drew 10000 for games.

Coincidentally, the Associated Press said this about the dome and the Rams.

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10073 ... s-st-louis

Maybe MLS think the dome will be available soon.

I don't think the Dome comes into play here except maybe as a temporary home for a team and for the fact that Kroenke may be our best bet, so we need to keep him in town. But that'll come with a new stadium.

It would not surprise me if Kroenke has started discussions with Garber about putting a team in a new football/soccer stadium in St. Louis, though. It's Stan, so it'd be under the radar. But it'd certainly make sense as to why Garber would believe in St. Louis enough to mention it in this address.

I tend to agree with what you're saying. In fact, I wouldn't at all be surprised if Stan's camp has had some role in luring all three of the major international soccer games we've seen in St. Louis over the past year, in part to show off St. Louis's potential and drum up political support (behind the scenes) for public money for new or updated facilities.

I stumbled across this group on Facebook. I thought I would mention them in a thread. This is a grass-roots organization, supporting any pro soccer in St. Louis, that will lead to an MLS team. Like them on FB or show your support. They seem like a great group of soccer fans.

I think there's a whole lot more going on under the radar than is letting be known, which is really nothing from local press. Doubt anyone will say anything for a good while until everyone's ready to act at the same time. Until then, best we can do is encourage and keep positioning STL as a great City for soccer.

After looking at sites in Queens and Brooklyn, a Major League Soccer franchise on Tuesday stood close to a deal to build a 28,000-seat stadium in The Bronx just south of Yankee Stadium, The Post has learned...
The $400 million stadium will be located on what now is an empty lot between the Major Deegan and East 153rd Street, a source following the situation said.

Thanks for the share.

I shortened it on bit.ly because the forum automatically shortens the URL while leaving off the .html, leading it to a 404 if it's clicked on directly.

Paul McKee and Charles Jaco brought up the possibility of a Rams or MLS venue within his district, in an interview this weekend. He basically said that he'd be VERY open to having discussions with any interested parties and jokingly offered his phone number over the air. He then said that he has not been contacted by anyone interested in putting a sports venue within the Northside regen projects borders. Sounds like an open invite to Stan Kroenke or any MLS ownership group, to build there. Not sure I'd want the venues in that area, unless they are on the riverfront or close to downtown. Time will tell!

Clayco said in an interview this year that there is still fizz in the Bottle District and that they're working with Paul McKee on it. I don't think they're going to build a new stadium there, they will probably build those towers they proposed in 2005. I wouldn't be surprised if they ended up being smaller, though.
