Tidbit of information; CEO/co-owner of World Wide Technology, who reported over $5b in earnings last year (up 23% from previous year) and planning to hire 450 this year, played for the Los Angeles Lazers in the MISL.

Have you heard anything that makes you think he might want to be involved, or just pointing it out as a possibility?

Nope, not at all - I just think the odds that a local CEO and owner of one of the largest private companies in America based in STL happened to play in the MISL are pretty slim. So just throwing it out there as a hey, who knows?

Interesting - I have never heard his name brought up, but how much would MLS like to say they have a minority owner? I think they would find a way to help him out if he expressed interest.

By the way the following numbers were reported by floodplaine footy

Further proof there is support for Pro Soccer in St.Louis:

Just as a side note, I think it's actually Jim Kavanaugh, who is not a minority. David Steward and Kavanaugh co-own the company.

I believe someone said that it was the highest attendance for a sporting event at the stadium ever.

This is unsubstantiated, but I have heard World Wide Technologies has a habit of hiring former soccer players to work there. From what I understand, hiring people from that community simply "works" for them.

Whether they want to invest in a MLS club, I don't know.

Grant Wahl tweets a question, St. Louisan and former MLS star Taylor Twellman gives a great answer

Grant Wahl ‏@GrantWahl
Hypothetical question: If Beckham doesn't own his MLS team in Miami, where should he go instead?

“@GrantWahl: Hypothetical question: If Beckham doesn't own his MLS team in Miami, where should he go instead?” STL not even a question

Nice time today for Real/Inter - couple of things-

1. World Wide Technology was a big advertiser during the game...hmmmmm

2. I thought the crowd was real quite for first 15 minutes, got into it more as the game went on

3. The dome is a dull venue and is starting to look dated, I know that during the "greatest show" days it rocked, but I think those teams would have brought a high school stadium to life.

4. Was disappointed that there was so many runners on to the field, looks like security may have been thin

5. announced at 54,000 and change, looked like every bit of that was true, dome was pretty much filled with the exception of the upper deck ends

6. We can support MLS, the question is - anyone out there interested in us.

7. bars and restaurants were packed after, good day for downtown

8. Metro trains were jammed going down, even as early as 11:00

Does Metro adjust frequency or capacity for major events like sporting events? Seems like a no-brainer, but not sure if the system is designed to accommodate such changes.

I know they have on occasion - don't know about yesterday -

Great column from Bernie -

Check out this line -

The Rams need a new stadium. Broader concepts have been discussed behind the scenes — a vision that includes a football venue and a soccer venue on the St. Louis riverfront.

The crowd was tame and very quiet at times but I could still sense the energy and excitement. Everyone around me was buzzing! (and I don't mean from the booze)

I'm curious - What in particular stuck out to you as so dull/dated about the dome on Saturday? I thought it looked GREAT with the natural grass.

WWT CEO Jim Kavanaugh played soccer at SLU, so he's undoubtedly a big soccer supporter.

I just found that the chairman of the board (Steward) as well as the CEO of World Wide Tech (Jim Kavanaugh) are part of the ownership group of the Blues. So the MLS wouldn't be their first rodeo with MLS ownership :)

^ Do you mean first rodeo with pro franchise organiation, or I'm I confusing St. Louis Blues (NHL) with another MLS team outside the area named the Blues.

The field looked good, its been several years since I sat in the upper tier, but it just seemed really dark up there. The materials, fit and finish just seem real dated to me, 5 years ago they did not. The video monitor on the north end of the stadium looks tiny.

Everyone always says the same thing -- the lighting is too dark. They could make the dome as bright as an outdoor stadium and raise everyone's mood if they wanted to. But they prefer dim.

From a Bosnian soccer website via Twitter...
BigSoccerBosnia
@BigSoccerBosnia

Our sources say should both countries qualify, the agency that set up today's friendly will set up a repeat in St. Louis before the WC!

To give context to that, the US plays a friendly vs. Bosnia in Sarajevo in about an hour.

That would awesome. It also seems pretty likely considering where each country stands in WC qualifying.

Quick note: St. Charles native Brad Davis was called up to the US Men's National Soccer Team, for the big game tomorrow against Mexico in Columbus Ohio. Always great when players from the area do well. He has been called up before, but I'm hopeful he'll get in the game, since yellow cards have decimated the roster.

Atlanta has emerged as a prohibitive favorite to host an MLS expansion team, SI.com has learned...

MLS commissioner Don Garber announced in late July that the league plans to field 24 teams by 2020. There currently are 19. New York City FC, a joint venture between England’s Manchester City and the New York Yankees, is scheduled to begin play in 2015.

SI.com understands that Garber told MLS staffers during meetings in Columbus this week that three of the four subsequent expansion sites (after NYCFC) already have been decided. He used similar words when speaking to Canada’s TSN on Wednesday.

This popped up on Tuesday, I imagine we are probably dark horses for the 4th unclaimed spot, who knows what's happening behind the scenes -
Interesting note - the owners of the Miami Dolphins announced that they would like to own a team (the NFL MLS ties are getting stronger, good and bad there) - which presents a quandary for the league who wants a team in Miami (where MLS failed before) Becks wants ownership of a team and was all but tapped to be the man in Miami, but MLS probably also like the Dolphins money and tie in
