^ I believe that house on Lynch is probably from more like 1865 or older. It's a stone cottage, like you would see in Carondelet, that has been stuccoed over. I only know of a couple other examples in Soulard, and the one in ruins at 1111 Missouri.
Geo St. Louis: 2205 Lynch St.roger wyoming II wrote:^ yes, demo of the Missouri Belting Building should be denied. Those first two buildings (the Lynch Street one dates to 1885 and the Dodier Street one is possible even older) are both sited in the rear of the lot, which in general I think is kind of neat.

Geo St. Louis: 1907 Dodier St.
No pics on Geo St. Louis but from Street View (it's the flounder in the back):

The ones on the 1900 block of Sullivan (and there are others nearby)? Those are Habitat for Humanity homes if I recall correctly. And yes, they're exceptionally well-done.roger wyoming II wrote:Also, I'm not sure who is behind the newer housing in the Old North around the Dodier Street property but its rather cool.... reminds me of some of the stuff that is being built in NOLA post-Katrina. (I'm not sure how to post a screen grab of google maps.)
EDIT: Oh, and for the screen grab - newer windows versions have an application called the snipping tool that you can use to draw a box around what you want to capture and then save that to a .jpg file. If you don't have that, then you can press ALT and the PrtScrn button on your keyboard to copy a shot of your active window to the clipboard. Then open MS Paint, paste it in there, and save to a .jpg.
Once you have the .jpg you can upload it to your picture hosting service of choice.

The two blocks of Dolman north of Park have really developed nicely in the past 5 years - from urban wasteland to what is starting to look like a complete street - Though I not a fan of the complete historic reproductions, many of them look nice and there is a lot of variety that gives the street an organ look.imran wrote:Next meeting monday Dec 15

Hopefully this can carry north to the large parking lot just to the north of where Dolman circles into 18th. the parking lot there is pretty heinous and detracts from the building that has the Gasthaus (is that place still open?) which use to hug the street with the curved form

^ good call. there really are so many potential residential conversions to keep population growth going for a long time; but it would be nice to get a bit of new construction to shine things up as well.
Nice to see Shriner's Hospital on the list, it was slated for demolition in an earlier version of the Wash U/BJC master plan. The more recent versions implied that it might be kept, but this is the clearest indication of its preservation that I've seen so far.

Not quite sure where to put this, but Post-Dispatch has a nice q&a with Brent Crittenden and plans for UIC:
http://www.stltoday.com/business/column ... f8f4b.html
He has some interesting things to say about the HTCs and the role of the Preservation Board in evaluating new construction in historic districts. And for his hope to expand the community-building model to other neighborhoods and possibly other cities as they grow. Hopefully they can grow into North City soon.

looks to be the slender red-brick building at the north end of the row and the squat garage farther south?roger wyoming II wrote: yikes on the Chouteau's Landing buildings.
the garage i could maybe see as it looks to be crumbling but no way in hell should any of the others be touched.
and given the fiasco over the last demolition on 4th street i'm not confident we wouldn't lose the entire row due to a "typo" or "mistake".
i suspect the owner wants a parking lot to cash in on baseball games. if that's the case, ***** him/her.
We need to email the Preservation ask them not to demo 744 and 750 south 4th street we need to save the row of buildings not tare half of it down them down i just email them about it https://www.stlouis-mo.gov/government/d ... ion-board/
It looks like the demo request ( and appeal of denial of demo request) have been removed from the final agenda. Will probably resurface next month (sigh)
