Maybe this could end up a center for rallies, speeches, and so forth...

I think this area is way too small for these types of events - at least it's about 1/8 the footprint of Kiener.

I swear, I've walked by this site a hundred times at various times of the day and I've never seen anyone actually doing any work.

Okay, I take it back. I saw a dump truck dumping a bunch of dirt near the big hole today.

I'll agree, the way they work is a little mystifying. Some days there will be a full crew there, other days there is a couple of people or no one at all.

Safe to say this has picked up to full pace now. Have been by 3 days in a row and they have been rocking the face off this project everyday. I'm encouraged enough to believe the March of '08 target date.

Excellent, that's only 3-4 months from now. And when Robert's Tower is complete, this area will really be rockin. :)

Innov and everyone else, I would like to clerify that I have no idea how much work is still left to be completed in time they have left. My previous comment should have been more along the lines of

The pace they have been working at makes me inclined to believe they are actively trying to meet timeline they have set for this project.

Starting to look like actual progress. Looked for a while like nothing was actually being done. We'll see if they meet the completion date. The weather lately is probably destroying lots of completion dates. I took a few pics yesterday, and may get them up tonight depending on when I get off and then when I leave after that.

There's now some kind of framework in place at the southwest corner of the lot, built on top of the framing pictured in newstl2020's last photo.

Could the framework be for the structure highlighted in the photograph below?

I think so - that's what it's starting to look like, at least.

Any one have any info on the giant screen? Will it always display "stuff" or just for special events? What type of programing? etc...

They have been pouring concrete at that end of the lot for about two weeks. In advance, they built a large wooden CASE ON the ground to act as a mold. They have spent so much time just getting the site prepped it is nice to see something actually being built. Although, the site still has a lot of prep to be completed. They really should cart off all that scrap at the south eastern edge of the property it looks like sh*t.

I think it is an anchor and landing pad for the zip line they are attaching to the rooftop deck of the Roberts Tower. I can't believe they got away with that idea, the insurance must be amazing.

A place for the homeless to keep their stuff, you know, shopping carts and whatnot.

The Business Journal is reporting that the opening will be delayed by three months as they got more than they bargained for in terms of rubble buried beneath the surface.

Apparently there was a lot more of the St. Nicolaus Hotel left behind than was anticipated - they even found one of the building's elevators buried in the ground.

It also says that the Roberts building is on track for a Fall 2009 opening.

Why does this always surprise contractors? This seems to happen with every project downtown. You would think they would know by now that every time someone demolished a building over most of the last century, unless they were going to build another large building on the site, all they did was bulldoze everything into the basement, spread some gravel over the site, and lay some asphalt for a parking lot. I can't tell you how many times I've heard, "Gee, drilling for caissons through 20 to 30 feet of brick, concrete, and iron is turning out to be kinda difficult."

They're starting to make some noticeable progress. Construction crews have built a sizeable portion of the northern wall (up toward the Orpheum) that will be the base of the video screen.

PostApr 23, 2008#299

They've brought in 10-12 trees, and the plaza is looking even better than it did a week ago.
