She has told various people that she does not support the proposal, but to my knowledge has not put anything in writing. It is my understanding that she had a meeting with the QT people set up for some time soon (this week?). Hopefully she will be unequivocal in her opposition with them and then make some kind of public statement. Remember that Lewis Reed lives in Compton Heights as well and it is unlikely that he wants a QT on his doorstep. Despite some apparent pro-QT people in Shaw, mostly I have heard an overwhelming denunciation of the idea from TGE, Compton Heights, and even the South Grand Community Improvement District. Couple that with the zoning issue, the ban on "service stations" in the Compton Heights local standards, AND the need to get through the preservation board with some major historic demolitions, I don't think this thing is really going anywhere. Still, people need to remain plugged in and pissed off until it is officially pronounced dead.

Who in Shaw favors it? I'm having a hard time thinking of any of my neighbors who would think it a good idea.

This mornng I had a phone conversation with Alan Renner, the real etate manager for QuikTrip. They are interested in the YMCA/Pelican building sites at Grand/Shenandoah
and want the opportunity to meet with the neighborhood. It is no longer "just a rumor"......
Thoughts? Many in the Shaw listserv responded in favor of a QT there. I think it's a terrible idea.
^^^Apparently some people on the listserv thought it would be ok. ^^

I must have blocked that out. Well, there is a reason I quickly got off the listserv when I moved into the neighborhood.

^ St. Louis NEEDS people like you on their neighborhood listservs!!! If we/you aren't informed we cannot do anything. This is how a lot of crap "slips through the cracks" in St. Louis.

I need a listserv filter then b/c the b*tching that went back and forth about this guy's truck being parked here too long and that guy unhappy that the new place won't get his business because they don't have a liquor license made it unbearable.

TGE has a yahoo group where all people who have time to shovel their inbox go back and forth about random crap. Then, there is a neighborhood listserv that is monitored and all the petty, non-essential stuff is (theoretically) filtered. Works pretty well, but then again I am always online so I can delete stuff as it comes in. Anyway, NO QUIK TRIP!!!!!!!!

PostApr 08, 2011#58

So the TGE Listserv is back up and buzzing. Alderwoman Triplett has apparently been giving mixed signals on this. I guess she meet with QT this week. She has said through a few emails that she doesn't support it, but I have yet to see her come out and very publicly stomp out this stupid idea once and for all.

If you live in the neighborhood and are against the QT, you must speak out loudly, directly and often, today. And tomorrow. And the next day. These things can go from people are mostly against it, to mixed signals, to DONE, in a flash. Email and call Alderwoman Triplett, email and call QT just to let them know you don't want a QT on that site. Make a sign that says "NO QT" and stick it in the yard.

Per the TGE listserv, QT is no longer pursuing this site and instead will likely focus between I-44 and I-64 as they still want a QT near this stretch of Grand. Maybe they can take some of that rediculous amount of "green space" by the new SLU building?

That'd be great, but that's never gonna happen.

How about the empty lot on west side of Grand between McRee & Lafayette? It seems perfect. Just off the highway and no need for demo.

I hate the idea of a Quick Trip anywhere on Grand.

The south side is completely filled with gas stations. It's hard to believe they could possibly have a need for another one.

I heard from a Compton Heights resident who spoke up at the last Fox Park neighborhood meeting that there is a non-profit org that uses rabbits for mental and physical therapy purposes that is interested in this building and possibly the YWCA just to the north (I'm not making this up). Anyone have any details? I would love to see these buildings get a new use and not go the way of the wrecking ball.

hmmm... that seems like a LOT of space for rabbits. i could see something like that occupying the Pelican but the Pelican AND the YMCA?

It's horses for therapy of autistic children (mainly). There may also be small animal therapy for the same purposes, but didn't hear that mentioned. All of that would take place in a use-specific rehab/conversion of the YMCA building. The horses would not stay on site.

The Pelican would be rehabbed as medical office space, perhaps with an addition. The ground floor would be available for commercial lease, like a restaurant or retail use.

This is what I have heard. My impression is this possibility has faded a bit, but not completely out of the question.

Not sure what I think about it.

What is going on with these buildings? I pass by every day and they seem to be just slowly deteriorating, with more holes appearing in the roof, falling gutters, etc. Is this going to be another case of demolition by neglect? Who owns them and why are they allowed to let them stay in this sorry state?

^ A good candidate for moth-balling funds in need be. Also somewhat relevant, I walked on South Grand the other day and was surprised to see how much the sidewalks were in poor condition.... not just there but pretty much the whole stretch north of Magnolia to Shenandoah.

Looks like this property recently sold for $1,219,392 to Acorn 6A S. Grand Avenue Real Estate LLC. according to STL Business Journal. I'm curious if there are any plans, or did I miss something on this?

Now that is interesting. That price makes me worry that it'll be a big spender who'll demo and build a QT or the like.

Jennifer Florida talked very briefly about it last night at our Tower Grove Heights Neighb meeting. She said that someone (apparently Acorn 6A) was finally able to purchase the property, and with the sale she expected some action to happen soon- development proposals, etc. It sounded like nothing was definite, but she made it sound like the new owner wasn't just going to sit on it.

That info probably doesn't shed much light on the topic, but I guess maybe it's some reason to be optimistic that it won't sit vacant.

Did that purchase include the old Y building, or just the Pelican?

hmmm… i went to St. Louis Business Journal and search "Acorn 6A" and got a link to the following subscriber-only article:
1/22/2014
Real Estate Leads - Collected week of January 17, 2014
: City of St. Louis Seller: Pelican Court LLC, Buyer: Acorn 6A S. Grand Avenue Real Estate LLC, Buyaddr: 4675 MacArthur Court, Suite 1550, Buycity: Newport Beach, Buystate: CA, Buyzip: 92660, Property …
http://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/subs ... state.html

anybody here have a subscription? probably not a lot of info but the buyer is apparently located in Newport Beach, CA. according to Google it's the address of Sable Financial Group. based on their website it doesn't look like they build gas stations, so that's good. maybe they're looking to open an office here? seems they have offices in a number of other small to mid-sized cities:
