I just came back from the building. I was down there checking on my Bank. I went thru the front lobby and it looks great. The security doorman is behind the desk, and the lobby is decorated beautifully. Even the bathroom across from the elevators are really nice. i will take some pix and post when i go down there friday.

Our space on the 1st floor is looking great and should fit nicely with the building. We will have 2 entrances. 1) corner of euclid and Laclede and the other right next to the Entrance of Park East Towers.

I am down there a few times a week, let me know if there is anything specific you would like to know or want pix of..

Thanks

Because I know ya'll care what I think: the "raw" look of this building is very Vancouver and is a great addition to St. Louis's architectural portfolio. I especially like the contrast it provides to the Park Plaza (I mean... Chase Residences).

^That's a good term for it: "raw". I expected this tower to be more refined looking. Seen from a distance, it just doesn't "inspire" me. It doesn't "click". I guess if I were an architect (or a poet) I could better express what it is that bothers me about this building.

I hope that the unfinished portions of this building are making the entire thing look "raw". When I imagine the finished product and eventually the trees along the sidewalk, not to mention the pool and the people, I imagine something very different.

I'm sure when the Chase first went up, it probably looked totally out of place, but these days it looks totally normal there.

I'm glad that others are seeing the glaring design flaws in this building. The design is disjointed. The base does not compliment the glass structure. It creates way too much visual tension. In fact, the glass stucture is lost because of the heaviness of the base. And why on earth did they choose that cheap, overused, stucco material (besides for the obvious reason.) It's ugly.

The glass structure looks like it was built on top of an existing badly designed garage structure and that no attention was paid in unifying the design (I'm sorry, but those "deco" flourishes on the outside of the garage seem like an afterthought.) The architect that designed the stucture should be ashamed. It appears that no consideration was paid to the look and feel of the base of this building, certainly not from the pedestrian's viewpoint, and that the building was rammed through solely for the fact that it was the first new highrise in 20-30 years.

It's great that trees will cover up the flaws... but it's such a shame that the design requires it. This speaks volumes for the need of more community oversight in design standards, especially in this distinctly St. Louis neighborhood. Thank goodness more attention was paid to the design elements of Opus's Lindell Condominiums. Otherwise you might have gotten another hot mess that needs covering.

I like the glass structure on top... it's contemporary, light and airy, but man did they screw up that base.

Perhaps the community, (or SLUP, perhaps) can suggest some adjustments be made to the current design... such as covering, or replacing, a lot of the stucco with a glass or some other material that unifies the design?

I've got to agree about the base. I like this building as a skyline addition, and view it primarily from a distance cycling by on Lindell and in the Park. The arial shots make it look like it has a history along the lines of "well, we were building this cheesy block, but then we fired that architect and the new one built a nice "skeletal" building atop it.

I think the tower looks great from a distance and I think the base will meld well with the other street corners once trees and pedestrians are in place. The aerial very accentuates the disconnect between the two parts, but they're supposed to be different. Without being in a helicopter you won't see the whole building as in the pic above. I have my gripes about the building but I'm not disappointed.

I guess the tower would have looked gorgeous if the glass had come down to the very first floor. Given the fact that St. Louis developers seem to frown upon underground parking, I see how we got what we got. I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed and hope that once the final product is complete, we won't notice such a stark difference between the glass tower and the base.

I just read an article in the West End Word about the first move-in's. From October so I won't post it here, but if anyone is interested, here is the link:

Have been poking around the building all afternoon, it has come a long way since I last saw it several months ago, and is nice. The lobby is completed and looks good although the furniture quality is underwhelming. The doormen were both quite professional, courteous and well spoken, and the workmen I've encountered in any common area have not only been polite and friendly but some have gone out of their way to help with small things or answer questions. The common areas are not entirely finished and the pool deck is entirely a construction zone. The gym is adequate. If anyone has any specific questions regarding the building that would require presence to answer, I will do my best.

A new type of unit appears to be for sale on the cbgundaker site, the Westminster. I always liked the default floorplan, but I wonder if any changes were made. If I was in St. Louis I would definitely be checking these units out. If anybody does and they could sneak some picks, it would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know if the PET (or CWE) has power?

Couldn't find any specifics about St. Louis power outage locations on the net.

Check out www.stltoday.com to see outages by Zip Code. I believe basically all of the CWE has power.

My closing date was moved back another two weeks to Feb 5. Not sure if the storm had anything to do with that.

I have a few pictures taken from inside my apartment if anyone would like to post them. I'm photo posting challenged.

I love my house, but D*MN that's sweet. I just met someone with a park side 19th floor unit - hopefully I'll get to check it out. He said they've put ~$80k in upgrades into it and may sell it, never having moved in!

Just think about the bbq's you'll be enjoying on that deck. When I'm in town of course. And as long as somebody offers to buy the meat--I'll be on a no name cereal diet for a while c/o mortgage payments. Does anyone know anything about electric grills, they won't allow gas.

I don't suppose your deck will hold a hot tub, will it?

Hmm, no gas grills? How bout good ol' fashioned charcoal?

No hot tub on my floor, but if you don't mind using the ladder, you can climb two floors up to the hot tub up there.

Oh, charcoal isn't allowed either for fire and smoke concerns. The people above me paid too much to be smoked off their terrace. So I guess we'd have to invited everybody above me.
