I stopped in the other day and the food is great! I've already tried the pulled chicken and the brisket and several people I know have said its the best BBQ they have had. I hope everyone on here gets a chance to check it out.

Smokey Emerson said you can bring in your own beer until they get the license ! .. so nows the time to really get in and out cheap!

Also, they started up the catering part of the business so keep them in mind for the party you might be throwing..

Went last night. What a great addition to the city. No longer have to drive such a distance to Bandanas for good Q. Food was good and got a tour of the smoker. Fans of BBQ should definitely go. Go early. They had already run out of turkey and brisket and we got the last order of ribs.

Awesome, even it is for the short-term. More places need to do this. One of the things I have really enjoyed about a restaurant or two in Chicago.

Took the family here last night. Great food! I would recommend it to anyone. For something unique, you have to try their fried corn-on-the-cob. Good stuff!

MIDTOWN MIKE wrote:PAPPY'S SMOKEHOUSE BARBEQUE IS NOW OPEN

OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK 11am to 8pm - Dine In or Carry Out

Wrong wrong wrong wrong wrong! Just tried to go get carryout with the whole family after dreaming about it all day. They close at 4:00 on the weekends.........just in time to miss dinner. Seems strange to stay open through the post-lunch afternoon doldrums and then close right when people are starting to think about dinner.

They are not the only restaurant who does this, and I too can never figure out why you would do something like this.

I know Mike Emerson Smokes/Cooks what he believes will be enough food for the day.. said they have run short every day except 1 since they opened a week ago.

my guess is he needs to up the output..

He donates anything left to a food bank..so give him a break and try again but maybe call first.. at least over the next Month as he dials in the right amount to cook.. I'm sure you'll agree the food is VERY good and worth another try..

After trying at 4:30 on Saturday, we tried again on Sunday and got take out from Pappy's. A great little place with great basic atmostphere and the food was amazing.WHen I walked in with the Take-Out bag I said to my wife, "if this tastes half as good as it smells, I'm in trouble."

And it did.

I'll probably try to get back there for lunch today.

Oooooh boy.

Went here on Saturday. This'll be a great place to go before SLU games at the new Arena. One thing is for certain, they're not stingy with their portions. There was a lot of meat on my plate.

It would be great if Pappy's would stay open later on Saturday nights especially once they get a liquor license!!!!!!!

THe ribs were great, I went by myself yesterday, which was actually better than the original thwarted family trip because I didn't have to share with anyone and I could eat like a complete pig and hide in the corner. It was crowded at 11:30 a.m. when I was there.

I got to get to this place. The reviews on the Joe's stltoday forum are even good. And those people usually hate everything about everything.

We went to Pappy's yesterday and it was awesome, the food was amazing and plentiful. Mike Emerson was making the rounds and introdicing him to everyone, a nice personal touch. He seems to know what he's doing and the BBQ is amazing, I encourage everyone to go give it a shot.

He said his goal is to ind down everyday around 6:30 or 7, but the have just been running out of meat a lot earlier as demand has been much more than he expected.

I went for lunch today, which was the second time I've been. This place is EXCELLENT. Pulled Pork sandwich was incredible as were the baked beans and potato salad. I'm not as big a fan of the sweet potato fries though, I prefer the regular style. Anyway, this will certainly be on my rotation from now on. Much better than any other BBQ place that I've been to.

What time did you go? We went around 1:30 and the place looked closed. I sent my niece up to the doors and they were locked. Don't tell me that she just did not pull on the doors hard enough.

I went by at 5:00, and they were definitely closed.

Gotta call first. They make the amount of food they think they can sell that day and that's it.

I had been craving pulled pork all day and when I drove by at 5:15 yesterday, I was quite disappointed to see them very closed.

It's been a while... you think he'd OVER-shoot the amount to cook, especailly if he's giving the overflow to a food bank.

I went again on Saturday at about 1:30. The guy in front of me got the last ribs of the day. I was disconsolate, stricken. Theoretically they were planning on being open for several more hours, but were ribless by 1:30. Here is the equation.

bigger smoker x more ribs = profit.

/these guys have successfully tapped a Severe need for good BBQ in this part of the city. Now, bring on the competition!!

I've been by 5-6 times, and they are always closed. Pretty soon I'm gonna stop going by.

Not a good way to do business, IMO.
