Maybe the Brentwood Promenade parking lot will be less of a complete mess.

Target plans another location in St. Louis County

I guess Target has discovered the inner ring and city was short on Target supply. Any retail development inside 170 is positive.

When they designed this “Market on Olive”, in all seriousness why did they not have the development meet Olive and put parking in the back? It would have made the retail walkable between each other. I thought we left this kind of development in the past. Maybe the parking garage is an indication they will develop the surface lots with more retail and use parking garages if the opportunity is presented.

Next Target: bottom floor of the Railway Exchange redevelopment

The Fox 2 story also included a reference to 7 brew. A coffee place I hadn’t heard mentioned yet.

It’s the newest drive thru coffee shop to spread across the U.S. One in south city and a bunch in St. Charles

They did close their Ferguson store. Wasn’t that like 4 or 5 years ago

They have obviously changed plans once again...but Bob Clark said a few months ago TGT pulled Olive/170 due to concerns of elevated shrinkage-yet they apparently just opened one on Grand across from SLU Hospital, SLU Med and the MetroLink station.

If the Target in Brentwood opened in 1997, could this mean that the new U City store replaces the Brentwood store? When is the last time the Brentwood store was renovated? We all know the parking lot isssues but I found the store pretty disordered earlier this summer. They don't have the lighting, overhead music, or a single working price check station across the whole store that the newer/renovated stores in FL have and the Clayton/141 store has. Makes me wonder if they are proceeding with a larger store in UCity to exit Brentwood and assume that enough of the traffic from the South and East will go the other stores in Hampton, Kirkwood, Rusty Rd Costco, and now Grand.

In my experience the Brentwood target is much busier than Hampton, Kirkwood, and T&C. I cannot see them closing that store.

Agree with this. Brentwood target is always a madhouse when I go there, I avoid it when possible. I think there is enough to go around with the Ucity store. My wife and I will go to Target more often when it opens.

Gotcha. I know Bob Clark is pretty politically adept and astute but it still strikes me as odd to go on record saying they previously canned the project for concerns of shrinkage at Olive/170 yet opened on Grand across from SLU Med and are now proceeding with the same project.

Brick & mortar stores are becoming a relic of the past and it seems odd they are proceeding with building a larger store than originally planned.

I don't think there's any way they're closing Brentwood. It's one of the highest dollar per sq ft stores in the chain supposedly.

They seem to do just fine with 3 Targets in Town & Country, Ballwin and Chesterfield

I'll bet you Meijer started sniffing around there and Target decided to go with a blocking move.

Meijer is not quite ready to move into Missouri, but Target is definitely playing defense in the St Louis market vs them.

St Louis is a unique grocery/retail market since we don’t have any Kroger/Albertson’s banners in town. The grocery market is more competitive here for Target and grocery is an emerging priority for them.

They still have the big plot Dierbergs was supposed to go on. Pretty sure it was across Olive from Costco

Id bet Meijer will go into the new mixed used project on the old Bayer campus. If you look at the renderings it looks very similar to the design of a new meijer stores

Meijer is building in Edwardsville so they've gotten really really close to the St. Louis market. And there's rumors about them announcing a location around Lindbergh and 55.

Interesting. I've also been hearing rumors about mega-gas station Buc-ee's looking for locations in that same area, or somewhere along the I-55 corridor.

Those rumors are everywhere. Friends in Belleville swear it will be by the Scott AFB area along 64. Buc-ee's or Wally's.

I kind of prefer the local option, Wally's.

The region should be large enough to easily support a location along both I-55 and I-64.

Thoughts on above messages

A) Meijer is not going to Lindbergh and Olive. My understanding is Schnucks is relocating from next door to a full line store.

B) I believe Bucee’s was looking at the ground Meijer took down in OFallon IL. NEC of 64 and Greenmount. So that ship has sailed. I’d expect Wentzville or i55 corridor to be where they land eventually.

C) No indication, yet, that Meijer is coming into Missouri.

Dierbergs is back (confirmed by a U City Councilman). They're on the U City Plan Commission agenda for October 23.

Does anyone have a link to the plans here or an easy place to look up plans in U city. The gas station across McKnight from where the raising canes is going in now has a fence around it. Hoping it is getting torn down and replaced with something because it is an eyesore.

The amount of surface parking in that rendering is just gross.

I don’t understand how we can’t get the developments to front the street with parking in the back. I thought this was starting to become the standard to prevent pedestrians, transit riders from walking through non sidewalked parking lots.

Good pulls by the development so I suppose they are doing something right. Would’ve loved for U City to try to draw a more urban Dierbergs, Target or something similar closer around the loop for those residents but more businesses is more business.
