^ They acknowledge on their Facebook page that they're moving but supposedly haven't revealed the location yet.
Don't know what is going in it, but one of the retail spots at the new UIC buidling has a leased sign. Also, a pizza and beer joint (Firecracker?) is going in over on the east end where the old bike shop recently vacated.
For what its worth, Firecracker Pizza & Beer will be a joint venture between Atomic Cowboy owner, Chip Schloss, Chef Wil Pelly & Tony Saputo. It is scheduled to be open later this summer.

Per BizJourno, looks like Trops is seeking to go into the east side of the nabe directly next to Attitudes.

One donut shop gets torn down, and another one moves in. The Grove is rolling right now.

So, driving by today, I had a feeling that the restored brick facade going back up on the sauce building is cutting some corners where brick-laying is concerned. Hope I'm wrong. It's not done yet so we'll see.

that's putting it mildly. I see Sauce on Side has pushed opening back to Fall, which is not surprising at all; Vincent Van Donuts in the adjacent building also owned by Gills should be open before.imran wrote:So, driving by today, I had a feeling that the restored brick facade going back up on the sauce building is cutting some corners where brick-laying is concerned. Sad news as Sweetie Pie's has closed for good. (just this location, I think.) Very unfortunate.
What is the reason? I thought they were always busy.STLrainbow wrote:Sad news as Sweetie Pie's has closed for good. (just this location, I think.) Very unfortunate.
Did the rent get raised? That's always my guess.flipz wrote:What is the reason? I thought they were always busy.STLrainbow wrote:Sad news as Sweetie Pie's has closed for good. (just this location, I think.) Very unfortunate.

^ don't know the reason/all the reasons, but apparently there's been a lot going on... could make for a reality tv show.
Anyway, don't know about rent but I there is/was a plan for a bed & breakfast on the second floor so perhaps those sorts of building-related issues are involved. But apparently there also was a judgment against Sweetie's and I believe some sales tax issues as well. And then there also was a rumor that maybe they'd close this spot and open another location but I really don't know.

From St. Louis magazine: Sweetie Pie's Closes in The Grove
Some good news:Miss Robbie told SLM that after Norman and her nephew Charles “Lil Charles” Crenshaw left St. Louis to open the locations in L.A., the location in The Grove became too much to handle.
“Those two were managing The Grove, and when they left I was forced to hire new management...and those people went from bad to worse,” she said. “I wanted to keep it in the family, but I’d run out of family... And Lord knows I ain’t havin’ no more babies. “
The 77-year-old restaurateur does have additional obligations: Besides the other two existing restaurants and the TV show, there's a new cookbook to promote, as well as motivational speaking engagements and a new restaurant concept: a burger-and-sandwich place that she’s calling Sweetie Pie’s Hamburger Heaven.
Located on DeBaliviere Avenue (across from the Forest Park MetroLink station), Hamburger Heaven will be similar in scope to Hi-Pointe Drive-In, the recently announced offshoot from the Sugarfire Smoke House group. It will feature sandwiches carved from house-roasted meats and flat-grilled burgers. Miss Robbie predicts that the diner-style burgers will be sizzling within 90 days.
