Believe me, Andrew Weil’s quote was taken out of context. Anyone who knows Andrew knows he would not equate a parking garage that replaced a historic mixed-use block with “progress”. Clearly Andrew was referring to soccer team in general, not a 4-story parking garage.
^ I’ve been waiting for a press mention (or even a Twitter post) from Andrew distancing himself from that article. Hasn’t happened yet, and as far as I’ve seen so far…it won’t. Certainly hope I’m wrong though. You would think Weil and Landmarks would have something to say after the demolition of 1900 Olive ended up with a proposed garage.
^ & ^^ I take the comment as meaning the team and soccer stadium in general not necessarily the garage itself. So not sure why he would bother with a social media statement when it probably comes across as either good or bad depending who reads it. So why put yourself in a no win situation.
Yep, Everything went down to get to a parking garage sucks and like most parking garages they are always built to be nothing more. I would argue for the stadium and team itself is a big plus for west downtown, to finally get rid of the old 22nd street parkway to nowhere, etc. What the future holds, hopefully some future worthy infill sooner than later beyond this weak parking garage we want the revenue to ourselves plan but BPV has been journey and still anxiously awaiting 2CW announcement. I'm hoping at a minimum that LHM will come up with something for its surface lots between Union Station and the Soccer Practice Fields/kitty corner to MLS stadium.

Glad to see the MLS honoring Mill Creek. My grandfather who recently passed grew up on Market St. in the 30s and 40s. Said that the residents were very sad to be displaced. Probably would have been something similar to Soulard today connecting downtown to grand center.

Here's the video: some additional renderings/plans in there.

Good view of a possible street diet on Market

Amazing. They're building deep community brand value in a product that won't even exist for another 2 years, just by doing the right thing and taking it up a couple steps.

I saw somewhere that this portion of the Brickline (Market from Compton to 20th) will be completed within 2 years. Is that true or did I read it wrong? Seems like GRG is trying to squeeze SLU into doing something ASAP about the infrastructure around their campus. This, their offices, and the cortex segment means SLU needs to step up soon so they can link.

This is a $245,000,000 total project cost
$145m private money
$75m in fed money they hope to competitively win at east west gateway
And $15m from GRGs own budget to meet the 20% match for that fed $75m
Nothing about this will be quick. A $5m spur is due for EWG board approval on the 27th

So just asked GRG on Twitter and the one mile from the MLS Stadium to Harris-Stowe work will be completed in 2023 for the first home game! (Hopefully). That’s awesome! ![]()

I take it the current tenants in the Union Square Plaza building that the team has purchased to use as their HQ will be going elsewhere? Theres a rock climbing thing in there and I want to say one or two office tenants like law firms.
Great shots, Chris. Thanks for sharing. It’s really coming together.
Considering the recent announcement about the Compton to Stadium greenway, I wonder if it might be a worthwhile idea to name the entire block the stadium sits on Mill Creek Park. Technically part of it already has the name “Aloe Plaza West” or whatever it is. Since the stadium block will have a significant amount of landscaping and parkland, why not?

Very nice, but I wish they would have rotated the drone once for a 360 view.

i wish people cared about important stuff as much as they care about sports.
You mean we can't have distractions and leisure activities? Or do we only have to like what you like, care what you care about? If so, can we get a list?urban_dilettante wrote: ↑Oct 20, 2021i wish people cared about important stuff as much as they care about sports.

no. no distractions or leisure activities for you. only things that i care about. you totally nailed it. no other possible way to interpret it.
I swear it’s getting to the point on here where people respond to each other as if it’s the Post Dispatch Facebook comments
