I think it is good they are having a vote. But I am curious how they will have it structured and still expect it to pass.
I'm concerned why they're having a public vote. If the Cardinals can get 50+ million for BPV 2 through alderman approval what kind of money are they asking for?
I'd let the Foundry group see what they want financially and let them fight over it. The least amount of public funding wins.

Except the ballot measure in April, if they are asking for full public funding they can shove it. Kansas City privately funded theirs I don't mind infrastructure improvements around the stadium be paid with tax dollars but I'm curious what they're going to be asking on the ballot measure

Love it.
One question: Did the Drury Hotel with Lombardo's survive this development?

The overhead rendering shows some gray buildings to the west of union station so I think they're staying

Few observations:
Where are the Dewitts and Cardinals in all of this?
This bodes well for Maggie O'Briens for sure! Sad that One of the owners will not be there to see all this.
Hopefully there will be some soccer themed bars at union station. The local hooligans will need pubs to go to.
Is everybody comfortable with majority owners that are not from St. Louis? I know there are a lot of local investors, but the lead man is from KC. I just get nervous because the last big time franchise investor from Missouri stabbed us in the back. (StanK)

That sea of parking north of the stadium should not happen.
Keep the parking South and maybe west, away from the parts of downtown with urban potential.

I like the parking lots as of now. The street in between implement a street grid immediately after building the stadium; those parking lots can be easily developed into a ballpark village/ actual urban neighborhood. I think it's the best think we can ask as of now. They could've been left like they are now:abondoned lots

For clarity, St. Louis has not been chosen for an MLS franchise - though perhaps more/less it has. A league/city-endorsed ownership group has formed and has a stadium plan, with land acquisition, in place. There are still a few steps in the process, but it appears there will be a team in the next expansion round (2020-ish).

What's with the weird tunnel underneath Market into the stadium? (In the last picture)
I really like the design. It's nice and sleek. It's very contemporary, and I especially like how it could expand to 28,000 seats.
My only concern is that downtown St. Louis will now have FOUR major sports stadiums downtown. Honestly, I don't know why it concerns me a little, but it does.
It seems like St. Louis is putting all of its stadiums in one basket - downtown. That would be 162,000 seats downtown - not including SLU's Chaifetz Arena with its 10,600 - just up in Midtown. With SLU, the corridor would have about 173,000 stadium seats.
Even so, to me, the North Riverfront would have been perfect - even though the land is downtown too. The land is already signed, sealed and deliverable and is in desperate need of investment. I know the new proposal could help Union Station too, but a North Riverfront location would be just blocks from the new CityArchRiver project and LaClede's Landing. I just don't like where it would be situated next to Union Station. AWKWARD.
The upside though would be great for small school Harris-Stowe State University. Its soccer teams and conference tournaments could use the stadium too - especially if the city owns it. Another upside with having so many stadiums so close could put St. Louis in contention for the Pan-American Games.
Also, where does this leave renovations to the Scottrade Center (soon to be TD Ameritade Center)? Where does this leave renovations and expansion to the Convention Center and Dome?
Also.......with so much land around the proposed site, it would have been nice if investors and the city sought development opportunities and partners for new housing, offices, retail. Maybe it's coming.
And doesn't McKee's Northside Regeneration stretch over to this area? What is he talking about for the land he controls around/near Union Station?

I actually like it being close to Union Station. With the renovations going on there plus this, I think it helps anchor the area so it won't have the downturn again in the future. It makes Union Station less of an island. I am hopeful that it spurns more development around it.

Will be interesting to see what the ask of the public will be.... if there's any bond-backing nonsense and lacks County support, I can't see how I'd vote for it. otoh if its "just" coughing up the admissions and sales taxes, etc. then that would be a lot more attractive proposition.

^^^the perfect layout would have been, way back in 1993, building Scottrade Center on where the Dome currently sits. Following STLNFL's stadium plan for the north riverfront and squeezing an MLS stadium in/around Chouteau's Landing southeast of Busch III and a stone's throw from Soulard. A convention center complex could have been built around Union Station. Most of this could have been done in 1993-1995.
Having all stadiums downtown really doesn't concern me, seeing as how different sports play at different times of the year and have different fanbases. Scheduling could have accommodated a concentration of teams Downtown.
But it's 2016 and what's done is done.

What a great cap to an amazing week of development announcements
Still a lot of work to be done, but right now our lineup looks as good as any of the best candidate cities
The lead of Jim Kavanaugh and StLFC as the operations platform is great - deep roots in the area, know the fan base, and have been very good owners (just need some more wins)
Paul Edgerley -legit big money guy
Design - I think its OK - really to be successful will depend on the environment that rises around it -
Taming Market street
Ties to US
Parking (accessible but too conspicuous)
Future development on surrounding lots (that lot they shoe to the east of the stadium looks awkward at best)
The large lot to the immediate north is an obvious candidate - when the mall discussions were going on there was talk of a grand "terminal" building on the west end of the mall - Would love to see some museum or great signature mixed use building rise there

^ The lots, especially to the north need to/must be planned for infill development. With that, they're building an island and keeping this part of downtown disconnected from everything around it. Seems that with the excavating needed for the stadium itself, some underground/tiered parking could be implemented.
I don't think the parking to the north is a big issue because it becomes a future and easy opportunity for development at same time gives a realistic or maybe an honest reality of what to expect at first. St. Louis already has renderings going back a decade of impressive development next to a new stadium that is just getting to phase II and even that hasn't broken ground.eee123 wrote:That sea of parking north of the stadium should not happen.

I would advocate shifting the stadium back to the east some more and shrink the surface lot between Union Station and the stadium. This also gets you better alignment of the street grid on the east side of stadium. Trying to comprehend the plus side of putting in the s curve and the street that is not a street. Embrace the north south street gird just as they have to embrace Market Street
I notice they don't show any aerial views for the initial 20,000 seat arrangement. They all seem to reflect the 28,500 version with the expanded East stands. It would be interesting to see what the 20,000 seat version looks like in the same aerial views.
And did they provide any details (dates, funding) for the second phase?
