yep - everything I've heard from my friends on the inside is that MLS2STL is pretty much signed off on the Union Station location - they're just working out the little details before they broadcast it... the site plans and design are supposedly almost finished.
Same things I'm hearing. I still want to know who this billionaire is with the MLS2STL group. Any guesses?

Well when campaign contribution limits are pass this November, he will need something else to do with his millions.downtown2007 wrote:Rexdmelsh wrote:Same things I'm hearing. I still want to know who this billionaire is with the MLS2STL group. Any guesses?

Are campaign contribution limits constitutional? I guess maybe that depends on someone being appointed to SCOTUS.
They're constitutional, and SCOTUS appointments probably wouldn't have any baring on that.

If you vacate Pine that would work fine. Not sure why I overlooked that. Yes. Thank you. I think I got a fantasy rendering from the Union Station thread stuck in my mind.user28 wrote:ideally the stadium would host mls, womens pro soccer, slu men and womens games, state championship games, and some other events.
I think that the ideal site is between olive and market along 20th, because it would sit directly amoung existing buildings and act as a member of the neighborhood (unlike a busch stadium that awaits a bpv to close the gap). I dont think that will happen though.

Here's a pic of the Detroit Red Wings new arena under construction with mixed-use frontage (offices and retail) right up to Woodward Ave with the arena itself right behind...

Something like that would be great in Downtown West on Olive with streetcar rolling by or Market.
here's a pretty awesome pic... jealous of that track there for the Q-line that will open next Spring.

MLS expansion committee meeting this week - Might be some public news around the Cup Final on Dec 10
though it could be just about Miami... or maybe the next 2 expansion teams -

If all the dealings are put in place expect an announcement next month. I'll do the "I know someone" with insider knowledge who is indirectly involved with professional soccer and it sounds like scheduling and such around the holidays is forthcoming. He believes STLFC will make the jump to MLS (this is just his belief not the insider info)

Frank Cuzamono (spelling) said they should announce the lead investor in the next couple days-weeks. That should get stuff moving I would think.
I'm going with Kavanaugh, DeWitt and some outside investor with maybe 5-10 smaller "community" investors but we'll see soon

Sounds like news might be leaking out tonight. Fox 2 is suppose to have news on it at 5 pm.
It is going to be by Union Station (shocker... haha). The lead investor is one of the Celtics owners.
Fox News just reported that STL has been chosen for an MLS team! The soccer stadium site is the one just west of Union Station. The major investor is Paul Edgarly, part owner of the Boston Celtics.
Our city has good reason to be excited by this announcement!
