Saint Louis Athletic Club or Athletic Club Saint Louis? A.C. St. Louis for short?
I'd like to see the Apotheosis featured in the logo in some way.

Also, on an unrelated note to the King, I really can't wait to see these stadium plans. I'm still for the south of Market site, but after a little thinking I might see some positives for the north site. Everything I've seen in the press, even today still keeps referencing the site west of Union Station on the old MoDOT land. September can't come soon enough.
Couldn't agree more. Fortunately, they have a couple great examples to work from: St. Louis Scott Gallagher Soccer. But even better, in my opinion, is the old St. Louis Browns patch logo.KansasCitian wrote: How about....

^ They should just take the Browns logo, tbh.
I don't have the twitter, someone send that to them.

^^^^Hmm, I'm going to just go ahead and chalk that up to severe brain crampage and lack of sleep. FWIW, it has been a long time since I've heard anyone refer to it by its title.
I think that would look great, though I do think there would be some pushback on using King Louis IX on the official badge for a major league team...

Do the Orioles still own the rights to the Browns name, logo, trademarks, etc? St. Louis Browns would be a perfect name, following the footsteps of the Man United Reds, Tottenham Lillywhites, Chelsea Blues, etc. It would be authentic St. Louis, authentic soccer, and be something totally original at the same time. I just really hope we don't end up with either St. Louis FC or St. Louis Rivermen...both ends of the spectrum suck.
Maybe the Orioles do, but they don't acknowledge their time in St. Louis as the Browns.RuskiSTL wrote: Do the Orioles still own the rights to the Browns name, logo, trademarks, etc? ^ I'm not sure about trademarks but the Orioles are going to be playing the Cardinals in their St. Louis Browns garb for Opening Day at Busch next year. Should be pretty cool.

Question.
Last night at the MLS event, with Garber and Kindle-Betz and Krewson facing the crowd, the crowd burst into a song that I'd never heard before.
It seemed they were singing something about St. Louis being a wonderful place, or something along those lines. Does anyone happen to know what that was?

If not the Orioles then I’m sure all of the Browns intellectual property is still controlled by the Commissioner’s Office in some way, shape or form. No way royalties for the few Browns hats, jerseys, etc... that are sold each year aren’t flowing back to the league somehow.
Still, I think the concept could be reinterpreted/recycled and the MLS team could make it their own. Change the colors, change the sizing/orientation of the stripes, replace the baseball, change the stars to fleet-de-lis, and suddenly the idea that someone would confuse the soccer logo with the baseball logo of a team that’s been defunct for over half a century becomes pretty far fetched.

Part of the tune sounded like ‘When the saints go marching in’ with different lyrics and a ‘Go St Louis!’ thrown in. Probably something the St. Louligans sing.

Locally, Defiance is just small town. But the SyFy series defined the whole area as Defiance in a dystopian future. I think this name would redefine the word Defiance to make it more of a region-wide reference. Like Rocky Top.sc4mayor wrote: ^ Defiance just reminds of that small town in St. Charles County. Not a fan personally.
I look at Rocky Top in Tennessee. Folks around Knoxville / Gatlinburg Eastern Tennessee area use Rocky Top, including the University of Tennessee, to define the area, and they us it any way they want to name things, even though there was a small town named Rocky Top.
^ That's all fine and good, but I think most St. Louisans are going to think of that small town when they hear it. Not a SyFy series that was canceled in 2015.
I'm also not crazy about a name that references a show that portrayed St. Louis as a post-apocalyptic, dystopian wasteland. The jokes from the suburbanites practically write themselves.

shadrach nailed it. The St. Louligans sing it to the tune of When The Saints Go Marching In.

^I confess, I do like the idea of riffing on the Browns logo, but keep the blue and gold colors, spread the fleur de lis out in Louis IX fashion, and replace the baseball with something related to the team name or (association) football. (I'm in the UK attempting to not get battered to death for accidentally using the s word and sh*t like that. So many ways to die by offending people.)
Anyway . . . Huzzah!

(Also, I'll be sure to look up Defiance. Wasn't aware of that.)
I had to have a laugh at this ridiculous op-ed in the Post-Dispatch today:

Fortunately, the PD editorial board shredded him:

I was curious, so I looked it up. You're right that it's not available; the Orioles have maintained a registration for "St. Louis Browns" with regard to sports apparel, which means they must still be selling it at least periodically (otherwise it would be deemed abandoned). Let's go ahead and commit to having the major color of the team be gold, so we can coordinate our professional sports teams with the city flag. Got to look organized here.
For the same reason, the North-South MetroLink, if it ever comes into being, should be the Gold Line.

Geo St. Louis seems to be down today, but yesterday all of the Union Station-held property and the police parking lot south of Olive said "No information available", which is a recent development. Those were the only properties I could find like that, so maybe something in the database is changing...

I noticed a few weeks ago that the honor pay boxes at the parking lots on the northeast and northwest corners of 20th and Pine had been taken down and they were no longer posting daily rates on a sign at the entrance. Those lots are owned by the St. Louis Language Immersion school but I wonder if they would be targets for purchase and redevelopment as part of the stadium plans.
I suspect that everything between Olive and Clark, and 20th and 22nd Streets will ultimately be acquired by the city, with the exception of the Drury property, and possibly the Bricklayer's Union / Maggie O'Brien's building. They will then divide, lease and sell properties to the MLS team owners as needed. It will be easier and much quicker for the city to assemble the property, and work out deals with the State of MO, and with LHM for the Union Station west parking lot.Black02AltimaSE wrote: I noticed a few weeks ago that the honor pay boxes at the parking lots on the northeast and northwest corners of 20th and Pine had been taken down and they were no longer posting daily rates on a sign at the entrance. I can't imagine they would need anything east of 20th, but I'm not sure what this new Soccer Village, er entertainment district, proposal entails.
This idea was posted on Twitter a couple of days ago, and I really like it:
Soccer City St. Louis. SCStL or SC St Louis or SC Saint Louis for short.
Use the Apotheosis with "Soccer City" in a shielded logo using the awesome colors of the St. Louis City flag.

I actually really like that, too.
I can't wait to find out what the name will be.
