I know it might be on the very western edge, but I feel Fieldhouse was part of the whole stretch and they have announced they have closed.

Fieldhouse
Midtown’s dining scene took a hit as well. Fieldhouse, the 10-year-old bar and grill near Saint Louis University, served its last guests on Sunday. The restaurant announced the news on its Facebook page, citing the difficulties facing the industry caused by the pandemic as the reason for the decision.
“Unfortunately, the challenges we’ve faced in the post-COVID era have significantly impacted our sales, making it impossible to sustain our business,” the post reads. “Thank you all for your patronage and contributions over the years—it has truly meant the world to us.”

The owner was a right wing dickhead who doesn't treat people with respect, he probably dug his bar's own grave with this one. It's a great space with a nice front patio, so I would expect to see it turned over before other local vacancies like Triumph or Bulrush

Have you been personally abused by Tishaura? Because in addition to personally experiencing the rage of Jeff, he has a consistent reputation in the industry for being a tremendous a**hole to pretty much all of his vendors.

Not to mention he would constantly blame Joe Biden or whatever liberal he can think of for all of his bar's problems to whoever was listening at the time. Not exactly an environment that makes you want to hang out at the bar

Thank you for the insight.

I also wonder if The Foundry and Armory was a hit they couldn't take because of the owner's behavior?

Regardless of whether an owner sucks or not, it’s surprising to see a bar close so close to a university campus, especially when competition around the campus is thin. SLU already doesn’t have many bars surrounding it.

But even the worst owner can kill a bar in the best place.  Plus these college kids aren't going out the way we did when we were their age. (I lost count of the number of times I stumbled up and down Laclede between Clarks, Humphreys, BBC.)

Like I said the Armory's short life + The Foundry + Humphreys back was probably too much.

The "Tate Annex" new construction, mixed-use project has had a $600,000 building permit issued. (Probably will be followed by more permits.)  8 units + commercial.

^I was hoping for a storefront, bar, restaurant at 2649 Locust because that’s some rad glazed brick and ghost sign. Seemed it would have made a great front garage door open patio. Hope they redo the ghost sign. Would be a nice program to repaint many of these ghost signs in Downtown West. Could add a little pop of color and vitality. Murals of the past.

Wasn’t there an apartment proposal for these large lots surrounding it at one time too?

It was supposed to be part of the "Jefferson Connector" project. Absorbed into the now dropped "Boxyard" entertainment district concept. https://www.ksdk.com/article/news/local ... 2184a36cbc

I wonder how these restaurants are doing? Anyone have their finger on the pulse?

Went on the occasional day date to Blue Jay a couple months back.  Good beer, good food partner.  We came early for the sitter time slot and everything was solid.  By the time we were leaving on a Saturday it was getting well filled in around 1.

Demo Celebration: 3140 Olive. I don't see anything on what might replace it. Hopefully something more productive.

Fortunately it's too small for them. Plus they redline and don't go north of 64.

I was just joking fortunately. Might be able to squeeze in a small residential building, possibly with ground-floor retail. Not sure about the parking situation though.

Awesome news!  I won't hold my breath on anything spectacular, but it would be difficult for something else to not be an improvement.

Another steel container drive-thru biz with a queue that bleeds out onto the street. They'll serve fried chicken, coffee, or sliders.
