We CANNOT afford the lost of Schnucks downtown
Quoted: It used to be a lovely  store when they had it branded as Culinaria.  There were lines of office workers for the grill at lunchtime.  They had a coffee/gelato bar and a wine bar with tastings. You could sit at the tables outside and actually eat without vagrants begging for money.  On Friday rush hour, they'd sometimes have a live band playing in the wine loft.  It wasn't as nice as the City Grocer which had been down the block, but it did have a nice vibe.

The perspective of downtown by the metro and the reality of downtown (even if not as bad as residents of the rest of the city, county and metro view it) would be potentially unsalvageable in the short term if that were to happen

Hes been saying its gonna close for years. If covid didn't kill it, it's probably not likely to close.

The building is owned by the city/state and whatever tax breaks existed could just be extended if needed.
