Thanks for the new angle. It kind of looks like a giant flat panel TV. I wonder if they will show images on it.

I wonder of they'll have street front retail/resteraunt access in those "laclede like" first floor units. I also hope they don't plan on keeping the front of the complex so wide open ... is there goign to be a giant vacant lot across the street or is that just a quirk of the renedering's angle?

If they allow for street access to those units (and of course - fill them with resteraunts and so forth) .. then this complex would be an even bigger boon for the landing. We already know that many of the landing's current residents have misgivings about this project - I bet that would go a long way to assuage their fears.

I'm still having a hard time seeing this building on the Landing.

The "widescreen tv" look is better than the two angled wings from the top corner design shown in other renderings.

Thanks for the new angle. This thing is really bizarre. I honestly don't know if I like it or hate it. Bizarre.

So I am a nerd and have plenty of time at work and have noticed that 2 cranes are now up for the construction of the tower...I read in the thread that there are supposedly going to be 4? I love seeing construction cranes in the core of downtowns, IMO it kinda just gives a feel for the economic strength of a city (duh, although I'll keep my mouth shut about the 9th St. Garage!)...granted these projects might not always be popular, but nonetheless seeing these cranes is just a part of my nerdiness :D

Anyway, I noticed at the start of the thread some interest about whether DT, or the metro area for that matter, need another casino...Do you think that STL is becoming supersaturated with casinos? especially with the Lemay project, Ameristar's expansion (this is a hotel supposedly, but I'm sure there will be some random slots around) etc etc....or, will people continue to go to casions no matter how many there are in the area or how much money they lose?

I do support this project, and I'm happy with the design (I really like the new side view of it from the ground) especially since Pinnacle has promised to contribute $100 mil to residential units - I dont know how I feel about them "contributing" half to Port St. Louis, but that remains to be seen...BTW there was an article in the RFT about the tunnel that is supposed to be built under I-70 that was quite interesting, probably 2 to 4 weeks ago? I'll see if I can find the exact issue.

Just my thoughts, any response/criticism is welcome! still new at this, just trying to jump in :)

edit: Sorry about the RFT article reference, I just saw the thread below this! My bad.

I think the tower is gonna look fine. Plus, in a few years, we aren't even gonna notice it because of all the other new towers going up.

I hope the Pinnacle tower is more urban in scale as opposed to what is shown in the rendering and does not have the same appearance as the Marriott that was built in the 1970s.

OK, I can see a really big crane from my office window and I'm pretty sure it's related to the Pinnacle project.

i'm reluctant to say anything at all, but to the people in support of mississippi nights, i wouldn't sweat it. there are enough people that care a great deal for that club to ensure that it continues in some capacity. about every year there is a new rumor about it's "imminent" demise, but they've worked through it every time before.

Pinnacle signs deal to buy President

By Eric Heisler

ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH

02/24/2006

Pinnacle Entertainment Inc. has signed a deal to buy the bankrupt President Casino on the Admiral for $31.5 million, the company said late Friday.

The Las Vegas-based company revealed the news but did not detail plans for the casino on Laclede's Landing.

One option is to close the President and shift its work force to a rival casino that Pinnacle is building just blocks away.

As part of the deal, a May auction has been set during which other companies could outbid Pinnacle.

Penn National Gaming Inc., of Wyomissing, Pa., also has been in talks to buy the President and is a candidate to bid in the auction.

"There's any number of suitors that could emerge in the auction," said Jon Sloane, a spokesman for the President. "For now, it's business as usual at the casino. We'll be open and rocking and rolling."

President Casinos Inc., the parent company, has been operating under bankruptcy protection since 2002, so the winning auction bid for the casino will need bankruptcy court approval. Then, the buyer faces securing a license from the Missouri Gaming Commission.

I read this at like 5 this morning before my first coffee, and I thought it was me. Does anyone else think its weird that as part of the deal, there would be an auction where someone else could out-bid them?

That was probably mandated by the bankruptcy court.

I sure hope someone comes along and outbids them. I'd really hate to lose the Admiral (even in its current sorry state), and I really believe its a good thing for The Landing to have two seperate casinos.

Well if the landing had 2 competeing casinos then eventually one would bump the other out, and even if the Admiral does survive pinnacle would probably crush it in a year.

How would you explain Las Vegas then? Competition does not always mean driving your competitor out of business. It helps sometimes to band together with other competitors in the region to attract more customers by making the place a destination area. This is why auto dealers are always located next to each other.

I think this area could easily hold two competing casinos and hope it does. It will really spark the area north of the landing as the next loft district as well.

I think the market for gambling in Las Vegas is a little bit different than in downtown St. Louis.

Pinnacle Entertainment Buys President Casino

ST. LOUIS, (SLFP.com), February 26, 2006 - Pinnacle Entertainment has announced that it has entered into an agreement with President Casinos, Inc. to purchase all of the outstanding capital stock of President Riverboat Casino-Missouri, Inc., which does business as President Casino St. Louis Riverfront, for approximately $31.5 million.

This purchase agreement will be submitted to the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and is subject to a potential overbid by third-parties, as well as approval by the Missouri Gaming Commission. The agreement calls for a bankruptcy auction to occur by May 16, 2006.

Located on the Mississippi River in St. Louis, Missouri, President Casino St. Louis Riverfront houses approximately 1,025 slot machines and 30 table games. It is located within walking distance of the Laclede's Landing historic district and Pinnacle's under-construction $200 million casino project in downtown St. Louis which includes a 75,000-square-foot, 2,000 slot casino; a 200-guest-room luxury hotel; retail space; and a large parking structure.

Pinnacle also plans to invest an additional $50 million of residential housing, retail, or mixed-use developments in the City of St. Louis within five years of the opening of the casino and hotel.
