I just read about a lounge in Manhattan that is underground and the only way to get into it is through an old fashioned phone booth in a hotdog place above it. The place is called PDT (Please Don't Tell).

What a great idea. The basement music venue should do something similar.

I guess the Thaxton Speakeasy will suffice for now.

There were workers inside painting when I went by there this morning. At first glance, the space doesn't necessarily look like it's going to be done in a couple of weeks, but every time I've been by there's someone working inside, so I have no reason to believe Left Bank won't open at least close to their target date. It looks like there might be an information desk on the Locust Street side, and the mezzanine looks great as well.

Has anyone heard anything about hours of operation? I'm looking forward to checking it out after one of the many holiday events going on at Macy's between now and Christmas. 8)

Very good news - in time for Christmas gift shopping... this year I'll bypass Borders.

I think this is where Casa Semplice was if I am not mistaken. THAT is a great storefront - Love the windows and I think there is a loft in store too... nice!!! I will have to drive by there today.

GREAT LOCATION!

Really? I don't think so. I thought that was a hair dresser or something. Plus, I would think it would be far too small.

i think it's the one that is on the south west corner of 10th and locust. so yes, there is a loft in that space that Casa Semplice was in when they were part of the furniture store.

Oh wait, I assumed he meant their 2nd (and final) location. Never mind.

Oh my... that is in 6 days from today.

I walked by there this last weekend and the place was not even unpacked or anything... are they working 24/7 to open this store.

If so... great!

I saw some people hard at work today when I walked by. It had not really taken any shape yet though. I guess the deadlines will dictate the amount of sweat put in...

I helped put the shelving together this past weekend, and everything is going smoothly. The stock will not all be in by the Wednesday opening, so consider it kind of a "soft opening". The grand opening event should be sometime after the holidays. That said, the full stock will be on the shelves in time for holiday shopping.

The space is going to be really sharp, with a kids' area, loft area (with some used books), magazines and wifi availability.

The full story behind the downtown store, in case you missed it:

That's great - the kids' loft area sounds awesome. I've gotten pretty bored with all of our current children's books, so I'm ready to go over to the new Left Bank to stock up.

While I must confess there will still be times when I take Little 314 to the Barnes and Noble Jr. section (they have Thomas the Tank Engine train tables which will probably be a draw for him for another year or two), those times will probably be fewer and farther between with a kids' section at Left Bank Books downtown. 8)

Did I miss this part of the discussion, or has anything been mentioned about store hours yet?

Walked over to check out the new store at lunch. They have a long way to go as far as getting the shelves stocked, but it's going to be a great store and an awesome addition to downtown. I'd say they are about 25% stocked at this point. When all the new retail opens up in The 411 and The Syndicate, it's going to be an exciting corner.

Downtown Hours:

MON through SAT: 10am to 6pm

SUN: 11am to 4pm

Tonight, as on evenings featuring events/signings, the store will be open later (until the author event is over). The hours may be expanded based on demand.

Stopped by today. It looks very good, although as noted, still very sparse. I can't wait til the shelves are packed with books. It was nice to see a used book section up in the loft as well.

Stopped in today. Store looks great - looks big from the outside and the inside is bigger than I imagined too. This is really a nice space - is it bigger than the West End store?

anyway... it will be great to see all the merchandise out. The store manager said they were behind for the opening, but had already announced it and had a speaker tonight (Dec 10) and had to commit. The store is a great addition to the downtown core!

I also asked about the times. They are open to 9:00 pm tonight.

Special events will be later times (like tonight)

and the times set are for through the holidays at this time. I will enjoy later hours to enjoy the store in the evenings.

The best thing about this store is how visible it is. This is one of the most open and bright storefronts downtown
