Where's the transit? I see cars and parking and separation from the surroundings.
My understanding is that there is or will be a bus station at the entrance to this Low Income community.quincunx wrote:Where's the transit? I see cars and parking and separation from the surroundings.
ArriveKC south of Liberty Memorial and 3rd and Grand in the River Market were run through KCATA (both under construction). A few other low income and community resource projects also.

Greater STL Inc could be better advocates for corporate relocations but they would NEVER suggest that stadiums/events be anywhere other than Downtown St. Louis.

6 new data centers just north of KCI were announced today. 1.8 million square feet under roof.
300 jobs all with salaries above $100,000
300 jobs all with salaries above $100,000
Data centers are the biggest waste and contribute nothing to an economy, other than a loss of developable land and higher utility cost for consumers. They look for dirt cheap land and local governments who incentivize the building of a portable toilet.
I would not recommend trusting the job numbers. They fluff those heavily as DCs offer little else in regard to economic return on investment to justify the incentives.
The fact that KC is building the area around its airport to a back office data center hub is… a choice.

The construction and operations employment statistics are easily verifiable…addxb2 wrote:Data centers are the biggest waste and contribute nothing to an economy, other than a loss of developable land and higher utility cost for consumers. Construction is temporary. Operational employment is never as large as they say it is in the press briefings. It’s also going to be heavily automated, thanks to AI, by the end of the decade.
These will be loud, inefficient, polluting, and non-revenue generating back office data centers.

Don't leave out the impervious surface, GHG and other pollutants for the power generation, and the jobs messed with due to the AI slop these DCs are creating.
50 jobs is the operational quote.addxb2 wrote:Construction is temporary. Operational employment is never as large as they say it is in the press briefings. It’s also going to be heavily automated, thanks to AI, by the end of the decade.

Business Journal indicates that this is likely Google. Will be their 3rd complex in the Kansas City northland.ldai_phs wrote:50 jobs is the operational quote.addxb2 wrote:Construction is temporary. School district came out to support the project which will fund, among other things, a portion of the new career center for the northland school districts. No taxing jurisdictions objected to the project as it replaces low value farm land with higher value commercial (even including the requested incentives). This project and Google’s hunt Midwest project are in areas that can’t be used for housing (unlike what’s seen in No.Va and Atlanta).
If Project Kestrel is Google, this extends their 14+ partnership with Kansas City which began with Google Fiber opening in 2012. Up to 8-gigabit service is now regularly available and Google has partnered with/funded UMKC to study 20-gigabit technology. Goes to show that the benefits of this relationship are multifaceted.
That is all expected. I just (A) know that data centers are not impactful and (B) don’t think it’s a relevant project for sharing on UrbanSTL.
I think you’re doing it in some effort to make the forum insecure that KC is a growing tech hub. I’m letting you and anyone else on the thread preemptively know that a data center (regardless of size and company) is not relevant.
Congrats on being googles back water data closet though!

I wouldn’t really consider KC as a growing tech hub given how many other cities are performing. The $ value is high which makes it relevant to broader sharing. The STL region also benefits from most of the factors that have led to this construction in KC. I suspect it will come to St Louis sooner rather than later.addxb2 wrote:That is all expected. Not true. STLs cheapest farm land is highly guarded by zoning and local regulations. There are opportunities but I doubt any developer can amass enough on the Missouri side. Maybe Lincoln, Jefferson, or Washington County. Cheap land in Illinois has higher property taxes.

Either there is a complex negotiation strategy happening between Lucas and White or Kansas City leaders are playing a very dangerous game of chicken with the Royals.

They’ll just blame St.Louis for everything that’s happening there now

I was in Lawrence over the weekend. I was very shocked by the number of blue KC ball caps I saw (Royals) and do not recall seeing any red Chiefs hats.

If the Royals move to Kansas the Cards would be silly not to jump on this and hammer home the Missouri team marketing push.
I had to laugh at the comments earlier pushing KC as some sort of tech center. Its just bland Midwest sprawl. Theres not a lot happening inside 435 just now, but theres a ton of bland new sub divisions and KS STAR bond funded crap going up in the far reaches of the metro.

Key part of downtown Royals stadium site is under contract to Wichita buyer.

Maybe this isn't a done deal and a solution can still be made... but yeesh.

People talk sh*t about DTKC but 7000 units are currently in the pipeline? Even if that includes the big development along the riverfront that is some serious momentum. Especially when you consider that the Riverfront residents will be seamlessly connected to Downtown with a free streetcar extension.
It’s a bit of smoke and mirrors. A lot of projects are stalled and the City has introduced a number of regulations that have nearly entirely killed new proposals compared to the suburbs. Most multifamily construction is now in Johnson County.GoHarvOrGoHome wrote: ↑Jul 29, 2025People talk sh*t about DTKC but 7000 units are currently in the pipeline?
