KC Streetcar hit a million rides today. (And Cincy Streetcar hit 150,000 in its first month.)

As long as they remain FREE they will be well traveled. Throw in a 2.50 ride one way... then tell me real numbers. A 2 mile slow.ride on KCs streetcar is a novelty. I think more people ride the ZooLine RR at the STL ZOO every year

PostOct 08, 2016#154

Ps... and the ZOO RR is longer

Not true. Zoo RR is 1.5 mile roundtrip, KC streetcar is 4.4 miles.

I'm measuring round trips on the two as 1.2 and 3.9 miles respectively, using Google maps. I suspect the official Zooline figure includes yard tracks. My measurements are a little angular, and measuring off an aerial photo isn't always the most accurate, as it ignores terrain, but that's a heck of a discrepancy. Railroads often talk about route miles and track miles. I'm guessing someone measured track miles at the zoo and that figure has stuck. It's possible KC streetcar includes the same sort of slight fiction. The Delmar Loop ought to be just a little longer, actually, at about 4.2 route miles round trip. But the two streetcars are surprisingly close.

That's "modular" to say the least. Kind of ugly.

^It's VERY ugly...and it looks very similar to the apartment building planned for Cortex. Same skinny windows.

Not quite sure what to make of it or the other examples from other cities in that article... I guess in general I kind of look at these like I do shipping container architecture... I wouldn't mind seeing one or two of the better examples in town but that's about it.

Skinny, vertical windows are ergonomically wrong. Feng shui wrong too.

But this development, going in at 21st and Wyandotte, looks much, much better. That's about the equivalent of 21st and Locust in St. Louis, where Schlafly tap room is located.

I would love to see this somewhere in Old North even that Alterra project would be a great addition maybe the Bottle District site or the Riverfront where that ugly econo lodge is next to the 4 seasons
Im having fun with this seriously KC is doing some great things just as much as Saint.Louis finally turning the corner....

KC Streetcar also hopes to expand down that way from River Market.

Convention Center Hotel had some issues getting over the hurdle but looks like it's back on track:

and they have increased the size of the hotel floor plates to allow more rooms per floor.

The latter change will allow the developers to reduce the height of the hotel from 23 or 24 floors to 21 or 22, which will reduce elevator and exterior construction costs.

^Seriously? It's cheaper to expand the footprint and add additional foundation work than to add a couple of floors on top?

While nice, this project has to be a bit disappointing for KC'ers, when comparing this version, to the initial renderings.

Agree with the comments that it isn't as exciting as the original. But will still be a good addition. Here is the new downtown Cleveland Hilton - Convention Center btw.

^I could see the same arguments applying to the CWE & Clayton - locations that empty nesters and millennials will increasingly gravitate toward even during a broader, more national slow down in rents and new construction apartment developments.
