Here is more on the new Jazz center:
http://www.stltoday.com/entertainment/m ... 15ade.html

Jazz at the Bistro closes its doors later this month but will reopen in October as an all new state-of-the art venue and center for jazz.

The newly-christened Ferring Jazz Bistro will kick off with an October show from jazz legend Wynton Marsalis.

The Harold and Dorothy Steward Center for Jazz will be home to both the Ferring Jazz Bistro and the Centene Jazz Education Center. A jazz lounge and staff headquarters are also part of the equation.

The space expands next door into the former Greenberg Van Doren Gallery Building....

Has anyone heard anything about the Grandel? No ownership change or permits on record.

^ good question.... one of the many mysteries of Grand Center. I also wonder if GC has made any decision on the possible garage/retail.

Steve Smith said he hopes to begin work on the Missouri Theater Building in 4-6 weeks.

Closed all summer? I'd think they'd want to do the renovation in the winter months....

^ Is your comment in regard to Missouri Theater Building work? There is nothing to close in that vacant building.

The Pulitzer is expanding. Nothing too dramatic, just a renovation of the lower levels; but it will increase their exhibition and program space. They're going to close for construction in late August, and re-open in May 2015.

Also, they're changing their official name to The Pulitzer Arts Foundation.

I just got a look at the latest plans and renderings for the new Public Media Commons under construction between KWMU and KETC; this thing is gonna be really cool. Multiple interactive media projection and LED surfaces cover two large walls, along with performance areas, seating, and landscaping. Should be pretty spectacular at night, and very cool during the day as well. This will be a great spot to hang out before and after theater events.

Grand Center Development Keeps Going

The Grand Center neighborhood is growing. This comes as no surprise to Michelle Stevens, vice president of Grand Center Inc. But, she says the area still has a long way to go before the “Growing Grand” plan is fulfilled.

This plan, which was finalized a bit more than a year ago, involves using the arts as a catalyst to growth and prosperity in this once lively neighborhood. The goals include increasing art spaces, living environments, retail locations and making the neighborhood more pedestrian friendly. How far has the area progressed?

^ Should we be concerned about no mention of the Missouri Theater project? Lawrence Group was to have this project well underway by now. (On the other hand, the article didn't mention the Jazz Saint Louis expansion and opening.)

^ Isn't there also a parking structure deal in the works that might lead to some additional residential infill separate from the latest proposal referenced in the article.

It gets pretty impressive if you add a couple of projects that have been proposed an or supposedly in the works not noted in the article. Still nice to see a positive article put out there.
