I have no insight or knowledge of what companies are coming to town.

Well, you made a comment in the Eden Lofts thread about how you won't be able to tell it's the same area in 2-3 years. Any stance on the area around the Georgian?

Wow. Thanks for the pics. Those are excellent.

That view of downtown/Near South Side makes me like the King Louis development's vinyl rears even less.

I really love the views of downtown! Those should be great sells and I hope Second Empire and other developers will build up surrounding blocks south and north with more dense and midrise housing.

Great views especially the last one with the building given a feeling of rising glory with the sky and light,

Supurb pictures!

^Agreed! These are great pics and I hope Guilded Age and others will continue to build up this area. The most important thing to me is the way The Georgian is helping tie the neighborhoods together. When this is all done, it will be a pleasant walk from Lafayette Square to Soulard Market. More of the same, please.

When going downtown I usually take the 18th Street exit off I-44. (Gotta love all those scratches on the exit lane's concrete barrier to scare you to take the turn slowly). This used to be a rather ominous path into downtown, between first seeing neglected homes on the far eastern end of Lafayatte Square (which are beautiful now), then you saw the City Hospital, which looked like the perfect setting for a horror movie, followed by the projects (now replaced with King's Square).

With the City Hospital... umm I mean The Georgian... looking beautiful. This once ominous entrance into downtown is gonna become a showcase.

:o Well now I understand how we got footprints on the window sill of the display? Nice Photos. You found some of the best vantage spots. I'm always happy to support photographers.

Wait for a month when the copper cupolas go on the roof! You will notice the hospital for miles going along I-55 and I-40. Nobody has seen these domes in a generation and nobody has seen them gleeming in almost 100 years.

Awesome pics, I can't wait for this project to be finished...it's one that i've been excited about since I heard it started (and even the potential before that).

Really beautiful looking. Maybe the wife and I will have to take a look when we are in town over thanksgiving.

Really, the King Louie Square stuff really isn't bad looking. Just give the trees time to grow and it will look great. Besides, at least there are not towers blocking the views.

What a great project! My only complaint is the shingles on the roof look really flat, no texture or interest.

Does anyone know anything about the sculpture to be installed on Lafayette? I know its supposed to go somewhere near the highway interchange at Truman Parkway, but I'm not sure exactly where, or what it will look like. Its being paid for by The Gateway Foundation, the same folks who gave us the dancing rabbet at Savvis Center, among many other pieces around town. Perhaps Second Empire has more unfo?

Tried to tour it today, but no one was around. Moreover, the signs for the sales office are confusing. Hope all is going well with the project.

I was just able to walk in one weekend and take a tour. If you have the chance to return I'd recomend it, it's worth the time.

Greetings to All!!

Appears to be pieces of a dome and cupolas behind the Georgian. How are they to transport the parts to the roof? -- helicopter or a super duper crane??

Cupolas are scheduled to go up middle of next week. Took several semi's to get everything up here. Delayed by the second hurricaine that hit Texas.

There's a pic of the cupola in today's Post-Dispatch as well. I never thought I'd be so excited to see the installation of a cupola!

didn't see the photo, but i'd like to offer the post a modest hooray, for (apparently) focusing on a tangible sign of the city's comeback.

I heard that the first tenants have started moving in to the Georgian. I really think this thing will go far in connecting Soulard to Lafayette Park. I think this'll be one of the most happening and convenient areas of the city. It's the entrace to downtown from the South and sandwiched between everything Soulard offers and everything that's going on in Lafayette Park. The other day when I was leaving for work I saw a crane carrying up the center cupola for installation. I wish I had a camera because it would have been a cool picture.

It will be a grand change for a major enterence to and from downtown off of the highway there. Hopfuly this will bleed down through LaSalle Park.

SoulardD, you are spot on. This single project is far more important than saving a high-profile derelict building. It is a turning point for the core of St. Louis because it melds multiple neighborhoods, Soulard, Lasalle Park, Lafayette Square, etc. The synergy will make a difference to the near Southside, as well as Downtown and the entire city.

If nothing else, it changes the entrance to St. Louis for many. From a scary, decaying monster to a stately symbol of prosperity.

If you haven't seen the hospital/Georgian in a while, you'll really be impressed. Now that it has a new roof and the new cupolas (the large one in the center and the two smaller ones on either side), it's really an impressive sight and symbolizes the comeback that the city is making.

You guys mentioning how this area is an entrance to downtown brings me back to a question I posted earlier in this thread...

Does anyone know anything about the sculpture that Gateway Foundation is planning for this area? Its supposed to be near the Lafayette Avenue/Interstate 44/55 intersection.
