I think the design is really cool and contemporary, especially compared to the rendering that really didn't give you an idea of what it was.

As for the colored glass, they remind me of those discolored panels at old playgrounds, or the magic house. Blech.

It already does :)

My memory is obviously a little hazy, but initially it reminds of of this building near where I grew up:

It seems to give off the same vibe; not necessarily what I'd want from a forward-thinking modern transportation hub, but whatever.

I think the highlight isn't the windows but rather the stainless steel "shingle" exterior. It looks excellent. Just think, in West County, it would have been imitation stucco, Walgreen's-style...

Downtown station taking shape

(By Ken Leiser ST. LOUIS POST-DISPATCH 09/04/2007)

The public is starting to catch a glimpse of what a long-awaited Amtrak and Greyhound bus terminal will look like.

Last week, workers continued installing yellow, red, blue and clear panes of glass on the future transportation hub near the Scottrade Center. The building's distinctive look includes its zigzagging footprint and zinc exterior panels.

How long before this is finished?

This is an example of something the city has done right and done well - regardless of what any naysayers say!

I've ridden Metrolink past this site recently and thought the colored windows looked great. They remind me very much of a Mondrian painting and I'm sure that's the inspiration for the windows. I'll be anxious to see the finished project!

Am I the only one that thinks this is a rare example of when the renderings look worse than the actual results?

Is it just me, or does this place look really small?

I think it's much larger than it looks. Especially from Metrolink. Get a look at it coming from Busch Stadium. It goes back much further than I thought it did.

Each section is a bit small, perhaps, but the whole thing sprawls across quite a bit of land.

It's stretched out. The building appears to be really skinny, because it's basically a series of hallways, linking the metrolink, city buses, greyhound buses, and the Amtrack train line.

Hopefully they tear down the fence between Metrolink and the property because it looks awful. Hopefully its just a construction fence.

I rode past this yesterday on the MetroLink on my way to Taste of STL-looking very nice! I think the stained glass colored windows will be a unique feature and add a touch of class to this building.

Well hopefully this looks better in person than it does in those picks. If not, it looks like an embarrassment.

Interesting setting beneath the flying ramps.

With a sunset sillouette of the transit construction. I hope that a spire-like Metro-Amtrak sign will rise upward, to loom over Highway 40.

Thanks for the pictures. It's such an odd structure to visualize, I appreciate the pix of the pedestrian walkway, stairs over the tracks.

I saw the transit center for the first time this weekend as I was riding the Metrolink to a Cards game. I was very impressed! The pictures do not do it justice as it looks great in person.
