There usually is security there. For a while they were asking to see tickets when entering, from the door that goes to Metrolink at least.

I took the Amtrak to Chicago yesterday morning and I got a text saying I had to arrive 45 minutes before departure due to new security processes. I ignored it and nothing was different at the station. Thankfully they abandoned this absurd process.
I went to Chicago on Saturday morning. Got the same text (before the city announcement even came out) and nothing was different than normal.

Burlington Trailways ending inter-city bus service. Not sure if they still had a stop in STL, their website says they did, but it won't anymore.
