Thats an awesome chalk drawing. Id like to see it from the side to show how long it really is.
THis is visually a HUGE improvement over the Wendy's that was there, that place was disgusting...unfortunately for me I prefer Wendy's food...boo

That looks great. I really like the improvements that have been made to those two garages - Bread Co., Hooters, Lion's Choice. Caleco's should upgrade their facade.

...and the inside. It's so 1986 in there.

The Caleco's on 21 by 270 closed 2 years or so ago, and is now a Chevy's. I wonder if the others will be far behind? Now that I think about it, this may be the last one.

Caleco's could really use a makeover inside and out- maybe it's something they could do in the offseason.
It is what it is, so it really doesn't bother me beyond the dated look and the overall ho-humness of it all. It may be as close to Crapplebee's as a local establishment could possibly get, but for years it has brought diners downtown when dining downtown wasn't cool. And it's usually packed on Cardinals gamedays.
Of course, the latter could also be said for Hrabosky's Tool Shed, and I wouldn't be caught dead there.
Anyway, back on track, the Hardee's looks as good as anything in the Kiener garages could look, and I'm glad they're finally in downtown.

That looks really good and should be our standard for fast food restaurants across the City. Urban and lacking cheesy material! That is how we are unique and attractive to those who visit.
I do wish they could have made the windows larger, like giant wall sized. Minor complaint considering the VAST improvement.
Went to a late lunch today at the new Hardees/Red Burrito.
It's obvious the place is crawling with bosses and staffed more than a regular restaurant. But walking in at 2:15 with rain outside the place was very busy. Other downtown places are already closed by then, dead or give you the stink eye when you open the door.
The line was long but moved quickly even though the cashiers were still getting used to the registers.
There were plenty of out-of-towners/baseball fans there. I had a family of seven in front of me who's order totalled over $50. They had no idea this was the 3 day the place was open. As far as I could tell they were from Jackson Missouri. (kids highschool jackets).
They were using the system where you place your order and get a number to put on your table then they bring the food to you. Food came quick and wasn't bad for fast food. Looked to be a mix of downtown workers/baseball fans and tourists.
Hopefully this new Hardees will help downtown and be a reason for other business to locate down here.

The latest story about it in the Post-Dispatch said it would be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. 7 days a week.

Yeah, I noticed their posted hours were till nine--pretty cool.
they should definitely be open late night on game nights...could be a gold mine getting the people on the way back to their cars from Paddy O's, etc...
I'm just glad they really dressed up that storefront

There's already a Hardees in the stadium
Not important enough to start a new thread...but the former Wendy's on Lindell now sports a sign saying Jack in the Box coming soon. Looks like they will be making a return to Midtown.

Will Wendys ever come back to STL?
I have to drove to Pevely, Rolla, or mid-MO just to get my Wendys fix, but thats only if I am driving though or in the area. Why doesn't some new or existing franchisee reopen the STL locations.

It may be a long time if ever. The chain is struggling nationwide and is rumored to be For Sale. Most of the existing local stores have been sold or leased, so if they are to make a comeback they would have to start from scratch. I have been to the stores in Vandalia and Centralia, IL in recent weeks and they are open.
It's a bit more than a rumor.
Wendy's International, in a press release on Monday wrote:Wendy's International, Inc. (NYSE:WEN) announced today that the Special Committee of its Board of Directors, which is reviewing the Company's strategic options, has decided to explore a possible sale of the Company.
That's a shame. It seems that ever since Dave died, things haven't been going well for the folks at Wendys. Ironic that its the one fast food joint that I actually like going to.

I heard lately on the news that Wendy's was re-opening one of the restaurants on the east side. they had a pic of the building and info painted 'now hiring', 'its better here' ?
anyway I saw the same type of signage on the old Wendy's in north county on Lindbergh blvd in the florrisant/ferguson area..
although they havent announced this one It looks like rehab is in full swing..
FROSTYS for lunch YEA!!!! :hyper:

I wonder what's going to happen in spots like downtown and midtown where another fast food chain has replaced the Wendy's?
Then again Wendy's could take over some of the Burger Kings that closed. The Soulard, S. Grand and Jefferson BK's closed because the franchisee went under after the main accountant skimmed off a couple hundred thousand and left the country.

We have a Hardee's/Red Burrito in my town. I couldn't wait to try to Red Burrito when it was moving in to the Hardee's location. Red Burrito; blech. The taco's were tasteless, the nachos were...well, nachos. Not good at all. Very unimpressed.
Edit ; But Hardee's is awesome. Mushroom Swiss burger..mmmm :smt023
