It's the clearing of the old franshisee's debt that's causing the problem. As I understand all the creditors need to be paid off before the stores can reopen. Apparently the old franchise owners left everything a disaster.

The one in Hannibal is open. Stopped there a few weeks ago when road tripping to Iowa to see some friends and family.

Walked by today at lunch and talked to the workers who were gutting the old Wendy's.

HARDEES will be moving into the spot. Their goal is to be open by the start of the Cardinal season. Not a fan of their food, but it will be a good thing for downtown. Plus they also have breakfast stuff.

Hey, they're a St. Louis chain, so it's about time they brought one downtown.

I wonder if it will be a Hardees only or one of those combo Hardees/Red Burrito like you see on the Illinois side of the river?

What's Hardee's Red Burrito? I grew up in Illinois and I never heard of that. I know Hardee's was Carl's Jr. for a couple of years before they changed the name back.

Not sure about name changes, but both Carl's Jr and Hardees are owned by the same parent company - CKE.

^They only changed the names in the Central Illinois market after CKE bought out Hardee's as a test market. After a couple of years they realized their mistake because of the Hardee's brand recognition. This is why all of the Hardee's have the Carl's Jr. star in the brand logo now.

edit: CKE owns Red Burrito too

There is a combined Hardees/Red Burrito on Dorsett Rd in Maryland Heights. Only a few years ago Hardees was located downtown on the corner of Pine and 7th in the Macy*s garage.

I guess this is good. Hopefully, with their headquarters just a few blocks away, they'll be committed to keeping it nice and clean.

Hardee's is my favorite fast food burger joint, so I'm glad to see this. Granted, I'd rather see an independent in that space, but some chains aren't a bad thing. Plus, I have to agree with those that bemoan the relative dearth of inexpensive and fast dining options downtown. Hopefully this location will have at least some weekend hours.

Frankly, I'm surprised it took this long for Hardee's to come downtown since their regional headquarters has been there for several years. Does anyone remember the mobile Hardee's that set up shop on downtown's streets from time to time? It's been awhile since I the last time I saw one serving up Thickburgers and whatnot across Market Street from City Hall.

I don't remember a Hardee's there at all. Where at? From Pine, going up 7th, it's been Edible Difference, Swifty's, Subway, the old Sen, vacant place (corner of Olive), Quiznos, Pizza Hut/Taco Bell/now Curry in a Hurry. Which was a Hardee's? Was it where Swifty's is now?

The name Carl's JR is used in nearly every market except here. They've been Carl's JR for a few years in Oklahoma and California at least. I saw one in the bay area recently that was Carl's JR/Green Burrito. I tried the mexican food at the one on Dorsett and was not impressed. Bring a 24-hr Del Taco downtown!

I wonder why Wendy's is still running ads on local TV channels. All locations I knew of are now closed.

National TV ads. The same way we get Staples commercials.

We need you, Wendy's. Hell, I need you. I'm a mess without you. I miss you so damn much. I miss being with you, I miss being near you. I miss your laugh. I miss your scent; I miss your musk. When this all gets sorted out, I think you and me should get an apartment together.
