I feel like a "Culinaria" model would work better at this location, and possibly others. A 1/2-2/3 sized grocery store, with all the essentials plus more, at regular prices. Seems like a winner to me.

An employee at Fields Foods told me it would be a Starbucks a few weeks back

I live at the Expo currently, and would be absolutely ecstatic for a starbucks to open in one of the storefronts!

That will sure anger the "All Chains Are Evil/Local Only" crowd.nahart wrote: ↑Aug 01, 2023An employee at Fields Foods told me it would be a Starbucks a few weeks back

^All chains are evil except local chains. Some of those are okay sometimes. Sometimes. But in all seriousness, I'd rather see about any chain than a vacant storefront.

Full concur. Would I rather it were a local craft coffee joint instead of burned venti sugar drinks? Sure. But anything would be better than a closed unstacked grocery store and nothing else. They tell me DeBaliviere used to have houses of prostitution. That's suboptimal but at least it drives foot traffic for the other stuff.symphonicpoet wrote: ↑Aug 02, 2023^All chains are evil except local chains. Some of those are okay sometimes. Sometimes. ^I understand that in Amsterdam that sort of thing even drives tourism. Somebody really needs to put a Masters and Johnson museum around town somewhere. By rights it should be over in the lobby at Siteman, but . . . well . . . so much for that. (I couldn't believe the thing was still in business when I first learned about it as a young college kid. And not all that far from some of the places I hung out late at night of a summer evening.)

Not mad about it. With the Starbucks name, maybe it’ll attract other national retailers.quincunx wrote:Recent permit activity has Starbucks in the description.

We’ve got a lot of open retail bays on Debaliviere/Pershing/Union, and one Vegan Cafe is closing. I’ll take a Starbucks gladly even though I don’t prefer their coffee. Hoping it leads to more tenants.

where is this vegan cafe?!Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Aug 03, 2023We’ve got a lot of open retail bays on Debaliviere/Pershing/Union, and one Vegan Cafe is closing. I’ll take a Starbucks gladly even though I don’t prefer their coffee. Hoping it leads to more tenants.

PuraVegan Kitchen is at the corner of Belt and Pershing. I think at some point they transitioned to just selling pre packaged meals and things like that.
Anyway, it’s in the process of closing permanently.

Honestly thought it was closed already. I’m a regular at Mack’s and anytime I walked by it looked incredibly dark.Debaliviere91 wrote:PuraVegan Kitchen is at the corner of Belt and Pershing. I think at some point they transitioned to just selling pre packaged meals and things like that.

Ah! yes. They started back in 2012 when St. Louis did not know what vegan or plant-based food was. They still sell some incredible food but it is unfortunate that they are closing.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑Aug 04, 2023PuraVegan Kitchen is at the corner of Belt and Pershing. I am somewhat surprised that Starbucks chose the north building. All the retail front doors in north building are single doored. Could the starbucks be a smaller version?quincunx wrote:Recent permit activity has Starbucks in the description.
What can we expect in the south building?
Could be a pick-up only location, similar to the Wrigleyville Chicago location.
I hope not, especially considering the over $750k in permits. The space in the north building is pretty big, assuming they're leasing it all.

I agree about $750k in permits. I was only confused about single door retail fronts. are the permit costs picked up by the Starbucks Company or the owner of store? Sorry about my newbie question.quincunx wrote: ↑Aug 08, 2023I hope not, especially considering the over $750k in permits. Isn’t BPV a single door? I guess it depends how many bays they decide to take. It’s setup to have 3 or 4 tenants I don’t quite remember the number of doors at this moment. The space in the south building is to large for a Starbucks.

I saw construction workers inside the retail front in the south building this morning. Not sure if that is good news or just finishing up some outstanding work?

Also walked by this morning (just now actually) and unless there’s another green logo that looks like Starbucks, it’s going in the south building. I definitely saw the construction drawings through the building glass and a logo that looked very Starbucks like. So I’ll retract my earlier statement and say Starbucks is going in the south building. Either way I still see it as a win.stlurbanist wrote:I saw construction workers inside the retail front in the south building this morning.
