Gray buildings seem to be trending around the country these days.

A taproom coming to DeBaliviere. Am I reading right that it will be in Fields Foods or will it be in an adjacent retail bay. Great news either way.

Great question. More options will be fantastic as right now I just walk to Mack’s… a lot. Very happy with this development overall. Keep them coming on the lots further north.SeattleNative wrote:

I guess the Dec 12th trial date is canceled, and they are considering a new date?

Walked around this today. I like how it came out.

And here's something I tried to do: Rendering vs. Reality of the walk-up units on DeGiverville. The lighting is off a bit, but I'd say I came close to matching the view and the rendering closely matches the finished product. Might have to try and recreate this view in the summer when the greenery is in.

Feels quite massive.. street trees, love the 'step up' design. Really adds to the visual depth. I do think the non-bricked material could stand to be nicer visually but overall think this turned out nicely as well.

The Fields food off Truman Parkway has a bar inside so I’d assume this is the same concept. Odd at first but it actually is pretty cool especially on a day at the store with your significant other. “Hey hon. I’m going to look for some maize and then dip off for a beer or two.”LArchitecture wrote:Great question. More options will be fantastic as right now I just walk to Mack’s… a lot. The Fields Foods is actually pretty good. I was concerned given how lousy the [now-closed] Euclid location was, but so far this is well stocked and could and will replace perhaps 2/3 of our previous grocery spend at other places. I'm vegan and my wife is vegan-adjacent, and we do feel locked into Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, and Fresh Thyme for about three things at each, but if this Fields Foods stays well stocked (that's always the $64M question), we'll be doing way more than half our grocery shopping there. My kid went over there for a chicken biscuit this morning and only had to be gone about 3m30s. It's convenient AF.
My longer-term concern is that they won't be able to move enough actual food to cook, and that it will eventually get more convenience store-ish and mostly sell pre-packaged and processed crap. There are a whole lot of WashU law kids and similar types in these condos who don't reallllllllly use their kitchens like middle-aged families do. But for now, it looks good.

The hot meal station has been hit or miss at the downtown west location since it openedthroatybeard wrote: ↑Mar 02, 2023The Fields Foods is actually pretty good. Agree with ThroatyBeard’s thoughts here. Hot bar has been a hit and the fact that it’s so convenient for so many taking the Metrolink will ensure that it is a continued priority for this fields foods location.
Since opening, the grocery store definitely hasn’t been busy, but it feels like there is usually someone checking out whenever I go by. Haven’t noticed any expiration issues yet. It sure is nice to have an urban grocery store.

I've been disappointed by the limp lettuce and soggy bags o' salad. It's a death spiral situation, if stock turned over quickly it'd be fine. The deli counter has been slow. I'm missing the Schnucks cookies, def having withdrawal symptoms. It'd help if they sent some mail advertising to nearby residents. The convenience is a wonderful thing. Getting something on the way vs an expedition to a store far away feels Heaven sent.

go to any of their other stores
they are at best hit or miss regarding quality and efficiency in management
Most of them seem to be unprofessionally run and overall a mess

Anyone have a sense for how we are tracking at the Expo? I live in the area and anecdotally I don’t see a lot of activity with apartment units, Field’s or open retail bays.
The larger south building has only been open a little over a month…In talking with employees, here are where things stand with regards to leasing, rental prices, and retail. The Expo has 287 units: a mixture of mostly studios and one-bedroom units, with some two-bedroom units sprinkled in. The north building opened last fall and is currently 60% leased. Meanwhile, the south building opened very recently to residents. Overall, The Expo has leased 93 of 287 units (32%) and anticipates that leasing rates will look much more favorable by this summer with construction finished, retail moving in, and the typical summer movement in the rental market.
A majority of 1 and 2 bedroom units are leased to Wash U. undergrads that take metro to campus.Debaliviere91 wrote: ↑May 09, 2023This is true. I’ll practice a little patience.
As a resident at the Expo... I am really enjoying both the area and building so far. The amenities are very nice, and there seems to be a decent amount of people around, at least in the north building.
I did want to ask, does anyone know when some of the other store fronts will fill up? Are there any potential tenants? or maybe a restaurant for people to eat at? There aren't a lot of options and I think it would benefit the neighborhood.

more residents bring
the new stuff ? Not long ago there was a pizza place burger spot and a dentist within that block It's a tough stretch of road
A new destination spot store in that area/block would possibly spin off more business. How about a Zara.com store (in Chicago)?
