It was a biz journal article that broke the news. Kind of a bummer. The urban fields foods concepts all suck.
Yeah. The flagship is... OK. It's sort of like an off-brand Fresh Thyme, I feel like that's what they were going for. I'm glad it's there. But.

I was excited about the Euclid location, initially, but it's nearly useless for, y'know, actually buying groceries. The place is only half full of inventory. I love the main cashier I see there when I drop in for one of the few things I need that they do have sometimes (frozen hasbrowns), don't wanna bag on his spot, but honestly, it doesn't amount to a real grocery store. I don't know if the proximity to Aldi is killing it, or if there wasn't really bandwidth with both Straub's KHwy (also an increasingly disappointing/unhealthy inventory, these days) and Whole Foods a few blocks south, or what. But I live paces from this new location and can't imagine we'll end up getting much from it, Hot Pockets for my kid maybe. You can't even depend on the Euclid location for bananas.

From last weekend

I guess they're having trouble getting the material for the south facing bit?

South facing portion of that north building that juts out on east facade went up this week (I think that’s what you’re talking about). It’s long strips of Corten steel. They started brick cladding of east facade of south building this week albeit not the actual brick but the surface material it’s adhered too.

Today. The drone was having a hard time adjusting to the dark colors of the brick on all three buildings. Also, if you showed the first photo to someone a decade ago and said this is Debaliviere, they'd laugh at you.

$1.3 million for a mid-sized grocery store? Now I know why my frozen pizzas cost so much.

^ Gotta keep an eye on the rewards program.  We've built up like 60k points from living near the Lafayette location and when they do the free Dogtown pizzas for 2500-ish points on certain months we walk out with like 10+ of them.

About the only thing worth using the points on anyways.  I'm not sure how many free cucumbers or celery I can muster to use all of our points.

The sidewalks are open on Waterman and most of DeBaliviere along the north building.

what's the point of that vertical brown slab? Does nothing but block the views for many of the residents.

To be clear, that's not a freestanding wall. There's an apartment on the other side of that wall, so the view to the north would have been blocked anyway. As for why there's no windows, well it would be a nice view but it would also have a pretty clear view between those east facing windows into the south facing windows.

EDIT: just read earlier comments, if it's blocking the terrace view, yeah that's dumb.

To me it looks like just a big building that could be offices. Would not be braggadocios about living there

This is what I’m most excited for about this project. Being able to walk and get groceries again thank you.

Can't wait for the residents to move in, the retail tenants to open up, and sidewalk traffic to slightly pick up as a result. Such a major improvement over that strip mall and parking lot.
