Just saw that Wash U has been buying up Joe Edwards properties in the Loop, including the Pinup Bowl. Anyone have more info?
They have been for a while. Hadn't noticed that they bought Pinup Bowl, thanks. I've ben wondering/worried what will become of Joe's empire as he enters the twilight of his life.

I guess WashU boxed out Lux's plan, not that the U City NIMBY's would have allowed it anyway.it acquired the former Craft Alliance building, at 6633 Delmar, and the retail shops that once housed a Ben & Jerry’s ice cream shop and Babes Boutique and Rocket Fizz.
I think this is accurate. Red = tax exempt. In the city, the deal includes Pin-Up Bowl, at 6191 Delmar; several mostly vacant low-rise retail buildings, one of which housed Pi Pizzeria before it closed; and two parking lots behind Moonrise Hotel and The Pageant.
Do something around the Metrolink station already!
So do all these buildings sold to Wash U go off the property tax rolls?
Update- They have 6101 Delmar too.
They are claiming that any properties with operating businesses will continue to pay taxes but that is a pretty narrow guarantee and of course can be rescinded at any time.
If a building has a for-profit tenant, it should not be real estate tax-exempt whether the owner of the property is a non-profit or for-profit entity. At least that is what the Assessor's Office claims. Not sure if it is always that way in practice.

It was only through Historic Aerials that I learned that Skinker was transformed into a parkway/mini-highway sometime in the 60s or 70s. Seems like they tore up the Hodiamont ROW to the Wellston loop and used adjacent land to do the deed.quincunx wrote: ↑Feb 03, 2023Skinker at Delmar looking north 1926 from the SLPL photo collectionDelmar and Skinker Looking North 1926.jpg
Baffling that WashU is putting money into this when it should be replaced with multi-story TOD.

$1.6M building permit application submitted for offices for WUPD at 5980 Delmar.
This should be redeveloped into TOD. Maybe this will free up 5967 and 5977 Delmar for redevelopment.

5977 is an operational StL City Police substation. Was converted over a year ago. WU spent $90,000 to replace the roof before the conversion. I doubt anything will happen in the immediate future with this property. Proximity with WUPD office across the street is likely not coincidental.quincunx wrote: ↑Sep 16, 2023$1.6M building permit application submitted for offices for WUPD at 5980 Delmar.

Is there any news on either a reconfigured Wabash Station or redeveloped Crescent Plumbing Supply building?
I would love to see movement on these.

I'm talking more about the Crescent Plumbing facility that hangs above the Delmar Loop MetroLink station.
Hopefully, the Crescent Plumbing facility that is under construction on Olive corresponds with a redevelopment of the facility in the East Loop.

Magic Mini Golf is open.
