I had my final walk-through yesterday. Boy, did things look great.

I was really impressed with the craftsmanship - miter joints fitted tightly (no putty fill-ins), everything was nice and plumb, tile work was excellent. They even held back putting up some towel racks in the master bathroom when they realized it wouldn't be very functional to put it where we'd originally decided it should be ... they asked us about it when we got there instead of mindlessly following orders and letting something look bad.

The building looks fantastic - our loft feels big and open, and the windows are great. I'm really impressed. I can't wait until the facade is rejuvenated.

I was impressed with Dorsa as well. I actually think the location is perfect- it isn't that far of a walk to the restaurants on Washington west of Tucker, several restaurants like Kitchen K, The Dubliner, The Soup Man, and Mosaic are literally steps away, and there will be so much more within immediate walking distance once MX and the buildings around the Old Post Office Square are complete. I think those of you that bought here got some great value, something that can't be said in downtown much anymore unless we start making comparisons to downtown living in other cities. 8)

nice one.

gotta say though, it's a sad state that we're impressed when jobs are done correctly, and that's now the definition of craftsmanship. sign of the times.

have a friend closing in dorsa in december, looking forward to seeing the interior and the finished facade as well.

Have 2nd floor closings started? While walking the pups, I saw a party happening on one of the second floor units with north facing balcony.

Oh sure. Even 3rd floor has started ... I'm next week and I'm #2 or #3 on the 3rd floor.

Do any of you know if they did any kind of sound proofing between the units?

We are going on Wednesday to check them out again.

Yeah, Pyramid has added quite a bit of soundproofing as they've progressed from 2020 through Bankers to Dorsa ... each time, I believe they told me they've added more soundproofing between units. At this point, I was told multiple layers of different kinds of soundproofing. It's also under the concrete floors.

Put it this way ... they use metal pipes (instead of cheaper plastic ones that some buildings use) so you won't hear the sound of water falling from the upper units through your walls down to the sewer.

I'll test it out next week after we close and report back.

PostNov 08, 2007#333

Closed on the loft today. Everything seems to be great so far.

As for sound proofing - it "sounds" jus fine. There were workers with a very loud machine across the hall from us as we walked in, and as soon as we closed our door to the hall, the sound was almost gone. When you knock on the walls, you don't hear a hollow reverberation ... you get a nice dull thunk.

I hope we're ok on that ...

Why eekk? Is that a bad thing, or an excited thing?

I'm posting this from my laptop on my couch in my loft ... there's nothing to be scared of. It's pretty wonderful. My wife says it's perfect.

Congratulations zink! I think its a good choice, but then again as a future resident I'm biased. However, JimJim has had nothing but good things to say since moving in. (Hopefully my wife thinks its perfect as well!) I just hope I find out my closing date soon.

Dorsa is a beautiful building. I am also pleased to see a lot of "couples" now making the loft district their choice of residence. It used to be a VERY high percentage of single yuppies, but now a good balance is being maintained.

They've finally started restoring the facade of Dorsa, too. It's going to be a great addition to Wash Ave.

And yeah, I think everyone I've met so far in Dorsa have been couples ... and young. It's interesting.

For those of you who live in there, what kind of internet connection is it? It says it is shared, so i am hoping it is multiple T1 lines.

You won't see us in there until early January (at least now we know our approximate move-in date though!), but you can add my wife and I to that list.

The Dorsa sign is UP! It's a shiny gold color, which sort of took me aback a bit--wasn't expecting that. Also, the "D" looks like an "O." But overall, I think it's a nice touch. Washington is becoming increasingly interesting visually.

Here are a few photos of the new sign, which is an exact replica of the original with the exception of the depth of the letters. Restoration of the three fins, also in bright brass will occur this spring.

Below is from the Post-Dispatch in 1946 when the current facade was applied, and indicates the original brass finish of the fins and sign letters.

The spider web was destroyed when a storefront entrance was inserted...we are guessing sometime in the 60's or 70's.

Wow. That spider web was awsome. Wish they'd bring that back.

Great find, and thanks for the post, UrbanArch.

Double Wow.

Only question I have... if they are offering the lower floors as retail.. where will they put the signs? I hope they make it contract that it has to match the current style.

I would really like to know what's under that siding or whatever you call it. It would be nice if the owners could somehow at least see what's under it without damaging the building or the siding. I'm really curious.

Five fire trucks in front of Dorsa right now, Police have closed Washington between 11th and 10th. Everybody is just standing around. No obvious fire. I thought I heard alarms going off in Dorsa, but it could be next door. I'll update.
