I wonder if they open up the gates on Lake for pedestrian access to the south.
There's some pressure to open them from the Waterman-Lake SBD. Ultimately, I think a lot of it has to do with Washington Place SBD. (Fiefdom 101).
These little barricades chip away at the CWE's walkability.

These closed neighborhoods were one of my least favorite parts of living in DeBaliviere Place. At least they finally opened the gates at Clara and Delmar
I’ve often felt that these barriers almost exist more in people’s minds than on the street. Manifestations of fear and prejudice. If the thinking evolves, they will no longer be ‘needed’.
Heal the grid !! (With traffic calming to tame reckless drivers)

DeBaliviere place isn’t the best heal the grid example. If the streets are publicly owned, then the city should be reconnecting neighborhoods, like Clara to Delmar. But Kingsbury and Wash Terr for example are privately owned so it’s their choice not the city’s. Belt can’t go through even if the city owned it as it stops at Kingsbury. DeBaliviere place is designed east to west and north to south is a pain, but it was designed that way and opening all the gates wouldn’t fix that.

Imran:
Per my online lurking as per the emerging restaurant district:
Lake Avenue south of Delmar is not privately owned and should be a candidate to reconnect.
In the vicinity the other blocked street which is city property is Washington place ( between kings highway and lake)
Could start with those!!

Yep those are valid examples, Debalivier Place was the neighborhood cited so that's what I went with. Lake and Wash Pl are in the CWE but yep there are plenty in the CWE and Skinky D on the other side that could be opened.
I think we're all pro-grid when it comes to pedestrian connections, aren't we?dbInSouthCity wrote: ↑Feb 16, 2024We’re back on the heal the grid bs?

I'm perfectly fine with filtering automobile traffic, I just get angry when I have to walk an extra 10-15 minutes to reach a destination because the sidewalk is gated off.
The bike grid could also use some healing, in the form of curb cuts over the dividers. Example of what annoys me

Checked out Delmar Maker District for first time on its Third Friday. Completely night and day from the activity that was even possible in this area 2 years ago. It was busy in the whole block. I encourage people to check it out.
Now on this block:
-Steve’s Hot Dogs
-Third Degree Glass Factory
-Esca
-Fountain on Delmar
-Made for Kids
-Alpha Brewing
- Beyond Sweet Kitchen
-Craft Alliance
-Florentin
Coming soon:
-Olio
-Elaia
-Nixta
Is this what finally pushes the central corridor development north of Delmar?
West End has already been pushing forward. Fountain Park, Vandeventer, Visitation Park have so much potential for density and beautiful architecture. Let’s hope we salvage the neighborhoods before they are too far gone.

Union Studio announced on their Instagram that they will open a location called "The Lobby" in Made Makerspace lobby.
"The Lobby by Union Studio will be a locally-owned retail shop and common room. When you visit The Lobby, you will be invited to peruse handmade goods, grab a snack, or cozy up in a window seat with a book. Combining St. Louis-made art and goods with offerings from some of our favorite local businesses, this welcoming space will invite you to shop and stay awhile."

It is “Fountain on Delmar” aka Fountain on Locust outpost.
Delmar Maker District is very important imo in changing perceptions of the delmar divide, filling out the northern part of CWE and carrying development north into Fountain Park.
It’s a great collaboration that a few local business owners are trying (I know nobody likes the Alpha owner be that as it may). The rest of Porembas restaurants are coming which should help traffic. I do encourage people to make it over there for coffee, a drink, food and one of their events in the district. I think it would be really bad for future business on Delmar and it’s surroundings east of loop if any of these businesses fail quickly.
I ended up going for dessert Friday night. Had a milkshake that was excellent. The staff was very friendly. Neat spot. I understand why they don’t have food now due to size but I was a little surprised when I checked the menu online and they didn’t.
Guess the idea is you can get food at Steve’s hot dogs. Coffee, drinks and dessert at the fountain, different drinks at the distillery. You can take anyone’s food/product into any of the other establishments. They also have a patio.
I’ll definitely be back.
Not sure if this is quite in the Makers District or not, but Eurotrash, an interior design firm has purchased and moved their business into the former Westminster church at Union and Delmar, they might open it up for artist exhibitions -
