“Increase foot traffic” do mine twice a day count? My wallet isn’t going to like me. Big fan of Alpha just dislike driving across town for it. Very excited this will just be a few blocks away.Laife Fulk wrote:
This is awesome. Great concept and love seeing the investment there. Taking the kids to MADE, I've often thought a good food option was missing from the immediate area.

This will do a lot to strengthen Acadamy as well. That neighborhood is probably 10 years away from being downright desirable. To the south I hope Lake Ave can be opened to the public one day.
$0 zoning-only building permit submitted for 5232 Delmar, the Alpha Brewing, Steve's Hot Dogs, Fountain on Locust development.
Proposed mixed use mid rise building with restaurant and makers spaces on the first floor and apartments above.
Looks like these three houses (NE of Third Degree) will be demoed. Were any of these the ones that were arsoned?

^ I'm not sure about the arson question, but it looks like this proposal was submitted as an LIHTC plan this last round but was not awarded. Perhaps they'll try again or re-work the plan, (The other one in the second tweet below, on Forest Park Ave, was awarded. I think that will still have to go through demo review and any city subsidy request, etc.)
Wait . . . what's this proposed senior living center on Forest Park? Do we have a thread on that?
Seems like a bad idea to tear down those houses when there's so much vacant land on Delmar between Union and Kingshighway.

Such a shame we'll be losing some more homes that have lots of character. Looks like one of those buildings used to be a church. If I had unlimited funds, I would rehab all the old homes in the city on the brink of demo.

The new concepts, slated to open early in the year, will be called Florentin and Esca.
Florentin, named for Poremba’s favorite neighborhood in Tel Aviv and described as an “‘anytime’ kind of place,” will be open for breakfast, lunch and early dinner, with both sit-down and counter options available. “Fresh juices and smoothies will be prepared daily, and the (mostly vegetarian) menu is inspired by Tel Aviv’s favorite street foods: shakshuka, falafel, borekas, etc.,” Poremba wrote.
Esca — which is in part short for Escalivada, a Catalan dish made with a variety of roasted vegetables, and that also translates to “kindling” or “bait” — will be “a coastal Mediterranean grill and bar, with an emphasis on charcoal and wood cooking,” Poremba wrote.

Does anyone know where each restaurant will be located along Delmar?
It looks like Nixta is going to be part of the 5232 Delmar campus but I haven't seen any info on where Florentin, Esca, or Elaia and Olio are going to be.
