Chaotic Oakland Street Takeover Has Idiot Repeatedly Ram a Burning Nissan Z With a Subaru
In one of the wildest street takeovers yet, hundreds can be seen damaging property. At some point, a road flare was thrown into a gas tank.

I feel like criminals know there are currently no consequences due to the CAO situation. Even if they get caught trial is years away.

Celebrating the fall in homicides on here always results in a massive murder wave.

^ that’s alot of hot takes but with victims not cooperating, Missouris 2016 stand your ground law extending to public places, a defense lawyer would like Scott Rosenblum would pick this case apart. Detectives and SLMPD have some more work to do.

^Bingo. If you believe your life or property are threatened, then MO permits you to fire away. No duty to retreat anywhere or at any time.

MO has become the Wild West, just as our state's elected officials intended. Next up, repealing child labor laws and minimum wages. They'll get us back to the 1840s eventually.

I think we just need to operate under the assumption that the state of Missouri will be forever hostile toward the city of St. Louis.

That’s fine but the CA office prosecutes state level crimes and laws. Gardners office does zero enforcement of city law aka ordinances, that’s the city law department

Well, when you combine the gun laws AND the fact that it's virtually impossible to get arrested and convicted in STL it really sets things up to be potentially nasty.

A former very fun and outgoing people person myself, my new thing is just to simply avoid anyone remotely questionable. I'm a good judge of character. It's always worked for me. So, you know, whatever I guess.

Rosenblum probably wouldn't take this case, because the defendant almost certainly couldn't afford him. His retainer for a case like this would likely be somewhere between $25K-50K (I know someone who hired him for a less serious case than this and had to fork over $30K before he would even take the case).

But I agree that the SYG law and lack of cooperation from the victims does make it a tough case to prosecute, and yes, someone like Rosenblum would have a field day with it. Good chance even a run-of-the-mill public defender could get this thing tossed as well.

The dumb thing about this is that you can still carry without a CCL if it’s not open, so if a police see a gun in someone’s waste band, can’t do much

^^ Agreed, but at least trying to carry an AR-15 style pistol or rifle would be incredibly uncomfortable. That being said, expect man-bag use to increase, and murder numbers to remain completely unaffected. I wonder if there would be enough support statewide to get some common sense gun laws, such as the former CCL requirement, enshrined in the Missouri Constitution?

Regional officials agree to craft strategy to reduce homicides

https://www.bizjournals.com/stlouis/new ... ml?ana=maz

Participants said the East-West Gateway Council of Governments' board of directors is expected to consider contracting in May with the Violence Reduction Center at the University of Maryland. The agreement came after hearing from the center's founding director, Thomas Abt, who told them the nationwide "either/or" debate about either caring only about social justice or only cracking down on violent crime must stop.

The project would cost about $50,000 to compile data, which the Regional Business Council has committed to fund, said Jim Wild, executive director of the Council of Governments.

Abt said reducing homicides by 10% per year is a “worthwhile stretch goal” and part of the solution is focusing on a “tiny fraction” of the St. Louis population that is involved in gun violence – and a small number of blocks in the city where the shootings occur.

We've heard the "tiny fraction" phrase from local officials for a while.  Density of shootings data is also readily available.  Resources and deployment are an obvious focus in the affected areas.  Taking the most violent criminals off the street is law enforcement 101.  How about a plan to address the overall feeling of lawlessness in key areas people gather most .  Downtown and high profile entertainment districts should be the focus right NOW.  Recent high profile lawlessness has created an urgent situation in districts like  DT, Grove, Cherokee, Soulard, Loop, Landing and Midtown/Foundy/Armory.  LEO's in numbers every weekend is the obvious need.  A public/private partnership (which works) needs to be active in all these key districts to deliver results.  Has anyone else noticed the empty season ticket seats at Cardinals games?

The empty seats at Busch are because the Cardinals suck this year.

My employer, who has a large campus just south of DT proper, just banned employees from staying in any hotels on the North side of DT. Mainly Wash Ave hotels are where they are no longer allowed to stay. We bring in hundreds of employees each month to stay in hotels so this could have a significant impact, particularly if other business follow suite.

They want to see a meaningful focus on crime reduction downtown before they consider reversing this policy.

I get the perception & seeing the videos. But I have been very curious as to why it feels like Lyda didn't catch much heat.

Murders really only went up with her but didn't feel like she caught much heat.  Murders seem to be trending downward under Tishaura but feels like business leaders are freaking out. I get that videos are crazy to see, but it is a little wild that people are ignoring the actual data about the thing they say they care about.
