I believe it was 2:30 am. I'm surprised you didn't see/hear the commotion. It was quite a scene. I didn't want to give false information, but was told by a passerby that someone had their throat slit????

I walked by around 1am. I didnt see 30 cop cars but did see 1 paddy wagon hauling away an individual. No clue what for.

Our neighborhood makes TGS look like Clayton. Would love to be over there.

I saw 2 plain-clothes officer with 4 people out on the curb at West Park/Tamm (in front of Dogtown liquor) late last week. Saw a paddy wagon leaving the neighborhood shortly after.

I am sure this type of crime is not only common, but an epidemic.
I was at the Cardinals game Friday 7/31, parked in lot near Eat-Rite, came back to my mid-sized SUV after the game, started it and it sounded like a Harley with no pipes. It was extremely loud. Once I figured out it was my car, I immediately knew that thieves had snatched my catalytic converter. I would have to assume this is going on everywhere. One 5 minute google search confirmed that. It is going on everywhere. Thieves can get up to $50 at a scrap dealer. I had to pay a significant amount more than that to fix it. I would have paid way more than that if they would have done any further damage. BEWARE, the scumbags are out stealing these things. They use a reciprocating saw and grab it in minutes and the repairs are very expensive.

This is happening everywhere. Last year businesses in the Riverport area were getting hit hard with this crime: both company and employee vehicles.
Which lot? That $10 lot between Eat Rite and the Fuelman? Darn: I park there a lot.

That would be the one. It is dark and remote back there. Not many people around that lot while the game is going on. I don't think it really matters where your car is parked. I bet they'd get your cat converter if you parked anywhere at any time, as long as there are not a lot of people around. I know my car, Toyota 4Runner, is high on the list of cars that get jacked for the Cat Converter. See link.....country-wide epidemic. Government and manufacturers need to do something to stop this..

That blows and I feel your pain. For future games you might want to consider parking a block to the south in the Art of Living Building. The lot is gated and well lit. Price is the same.

You can also take transit (and try to avoid getting mugged).

^ I think I may consider the Metrolink or a shuttle from Soulard. I would think these thieves target Cards fans because they know that they will be in the game for hours at a time. I think many people would pay a premium to park in those lots if they hired a security guard. If they charged $20, instead of $10, but offered security, many would pay for that piece of mind.

Not that it's devoid of its own car-theft/break-in problems, but I know many who park near the Forest Park/DeBaliviere station and take the train downtown for any sort of event.

^ I would likely train to the games from Shrewsbury. Does anyone know the crime stats from the Shrewbury station and lot. I wonder how safe your car is there.

In my understanding, the break-ins at Shrewsbury station have been relatively low, assuming it's Shrewsbury's sole jurisdiction (i.e. if the City Police are taking reports, I don't know about them). I haven't heard of one in some time. Generally any break-in activity gets some air time at BOA meetings as well as in the newspaper blotter. There was a rash of break-ins at the aquatic center which is a few blocks away -- perpetrated by people in an SUV, btw -- but nothing at the station.

^Does the Shrewsbury station have a security guard that roams the lot or just at the boarding area? I never really paid much attention when I have ridden from there.
Shrewsbury cops are too busy busting people doing 26mph in a 25 zone.
DOGTOWNB&R wrote:^Does the Shrewsbury station have a security guard that roams the lot or just at the boarding area? I never really paid much attention when I have ridden from there.
I've seen a second one roaming the ticketing/bus area but not the lot per se.
...
As for Shrewsbury cops, say what you want about the speed traps (and I don't care much for them myself). But if you ever have a problem, they are there within minutes, for ANYthing (disturbance, dog barking, suspicious characters...). None of this taking reports over the phone stuff. They also do thorough investigations of things like stolen wallets and purses. Try to get that done in the City.

^I'd assume, that is the case in any small muny such as Shrewsbury. How many 'serious' crimes actually occur there on a normal night. They have the time to respond to the cat in the tree. The city always seems to have bigger fish to fry. I am not justifying the fact that they take reports over the phone, but I do understand that there is always a worse crime or issue to deal with in the 'big city'. The dispatcher told me I could leave the scene when I called in my stolen catalytic converter. She said they would call me back to take a report. At least they called me back in 10 minutes, on a Friday night. I know most want to speak to an officer in person, but crime is so bad right now. Who has time for petty crime. I understand my little stolen converter report is low on the list. S*cks, but I am being realistic.

It was my impression that the Shrewsbury station is entirely within the city limits.

^Well, if you use the Large stone City of St. Louis sign on Chippewa as a marker, the station is well east of that. If you draw a fairly straight line from the structure marking the city line, most, if not all of the metro property should be in the City. At least that is how I picture it.
Three cars hit last night in my (gated) parking lot, mine and 2 others.
Police were called, an officer showed up within 20 minutes, then the crime scene van showed up 45 minutes or so later. Both officers were very helpful and polite, and took prints, etc. Very nice.

Bummer. Someone driving drunk trying to park?

A coworker of mine had his stolen from the work parking lot in the CWE this past week.
This seems interesting, although expensive: http://www.catclamp.com/how.php

Car "broken in to" on Monday night. Congratulations, you received two $5 visor CD holders, about 20 burned CDs, and $40 of regular CDs, none of which had cases.
Total value at a pawn shop: $0.18 and a half stick of gum.
