Why is attempted murder a crime at all? I believed we wouldn't hit last years 188 homicides a few weeks ago but now I'm not so sure after a recent uptick... I think we're at 171 for the year now; last December we only had 8 homicides but in '13 & '14 we had 19 & 21, respectively, so we very well could see yet another increase. If so, that would be our fourth annual increase in a row.
We need a citizen vote of no confidence in Dotson. I've tried to remain hopeful and mindful that crime goes beyond policing, but the time has passed.STLrainbow wrote:I believed we wouldn't hit last years 188 homicides a few weeks ago but now I'm not so sure after a recent uptick... Again, if we had Persistent Surveillance these carjackers could easily be tracked back to the holes out of which they crawled.framer wrote:Man shot in the head during a robbery last night at Olive and 10th.

^ I thought downtown had security cameras and gunshot detection microphones to alert the police?
This guy is still on the loose?
Not sure what point you are trying to make. You're saying there shouldn't be punishment for attempted murder?MarkHaversham wrote:Why is attempted murder a crime at all? Just doing jcity a favor by arguing the shooter shouldn't do time. And yeah, it's a (Simpsons) joke.imthewiz wrote:Not sure what point you are trying to make. Police said he was stopped for a traffic signal at Olive and 11th streets when one man walked up and two others stood nearby on the sidewalk.
The driver "motioned for the suspects to back away," police said. As the light turned green, he started forward and one of the men fired into his car window.
This isn't in the Post, and I'm surprised it's not getting more press.

East St. Louis is a huge f*cking problem for St. Louis. The whole place just needs to be leveled. And we seriously need checkpoints on all the bridges, as well as an actual f*cking police force for Metrolink.

Well, leveling the places where the undesirables live is part of what got us where we are today.urban_dilettante wrote:East St. Louis is a huge f*cking problem for St. Louis. i'm exaggerating, but there's a ton of abandonment over there that makes for easy hiding.MarkHaversham wrote:Well, leveling the places where the undesirables live is part of what got us where we are today.urban_dilettante wrote:East St. Louis is a huge f*cking problem for St. Louis. Better policing of Metrolink does seem like something that comes up a lot but never gets addressed.urban_dilettante wrote:East St. Louis is a huge f*cking problem for St. Louis. Easy there, that is a loaded statement if ever there was one.urban_dilettante wrote:East St. Louis is a huge f*cking problem for St. Louis. The whole place just needs to be leveled. And we seriously need checkpoints on all the bridges, as well as an actual f*cking police force for Metrolink.
It needs investment. We as a society have intentionally dis-invested in it and N STL City and County for decades. Clear-cutting a city is never the answer. Not if we are to avoid the mistakes of our past and deepen divides that already strain our civic fabric.
KSDK reports the crime ring that hit Plaza Frontenac was based out of Chicago and had hit stores in multiple states.

I was going to throw some money at the Go Fund Me until I read "they're angry but they're attacking the wrong people". That's probably why the total is so low.framer wrote:Local music legend Tom Hall was a victim of the Knock Out "Game" in Soulard:

Also, no insurance? Poor guy is going to need $695 (or 2.5% of income) to pay the healthcare mandate penalty.
It probably didn't even happen anyway.
