4 homicides yesterday in the City. One was a drive-by shooting on I-70, which seems to be somewhat of a common occurrence of late.
why don't we send all of these traffic cops into the tougher areas in the city (assuming a city/county reentry) to actually patrol problem areas instead of issuing worthless tickets all day.

I drove on interstate 70 last night on my way too not knowing it had been shut down. I ended up driving through O'fallon Park then on N Florissant Rd i have to say it was a bit scary yet sad just seeing all the abandoned homes. Also is there a curfew for O'fallon Park?

And now a double homicide this morning so at least 6 deaths in past 24 hours.

It's getting to be ridiculous if i can say.
This has not been a good year for any of Saint.Louis metro police..

^ I can't help but notice that the uptick/surge in homicides began at just about the same time as the City gained local control of the police.... I'm sure that is largely coincidental but I would look at whether the police are doing anything differently that could help explain the marked increase.

Crime stats for this year. Homicide is the only category up.

Im very curious if the city ever does any check points also if they don't they should it might help also do back ground checks search for illegal guns drugs etc. & I'm not just saying one area of the city but all area's.
They don't have to ever announce a checkpoint just do it & you'll catch a lot of these criminals off guard ...
You are right theres been a definite increase in shootings since the city been handed over control

I know it's been a bloody 48 hours: but checkpoints in the shadow of Ferguson would not be a good idea.TheNewSaintLouis wrote:Im very curious if the city ever does any check points also if they don't they should it might help also do back ground checks search for illegal guns drugs etc. & I'm not just saying one area of the city but all area's.

So are we already throwing in the towel and wanting to give control back to the state of Missourah?TheNewSaintLouis wrote: You are right theres been a definite increase in shootings since the city been handed over control

^ What I'd like to see is DOJ and other federal agencies work closely with Saint Louis City and County to address some very difficult challenges, with the city's excessive homicide problem being one.
unfortunately up by a lot. Clearly there is a huge problem in Wells-Goodfellow, which had 10 homicides by end of August and only 1 at that point last year. As for other neighborhoods, some difficult spots like College Hill, Dutchtown and Gravois Park have decreased noticeably but we also see places like Carondolet (1 to 4) and CWE (O to 3) increase.downtown2007 wrote:Crime stats for this year. Six homicides in St. Louis in less than 24 hours

At least we're the 6th least traffic congested city in the world. Anyone going to the Page Ave X opening celebration on Oct 4?

Page is not a congestion relief route, it's a route for more direct access to a county with 350,000 but nice try playing with apples and oranges
Wow. Everything about that is stunningly horrible. A 50 year old vet? Just caught in the crossfire? Seems so random and senseless. To think that people are out on the street with ARs and AKs is terrifying. And people say that guns aren't (at least part of) the problem...The stretch of violence began just before 3 p.m. Thursday when at least two shooters opened fire with AK-47 and AR-15 rifles at Adelaide Avenue and Hall Street, police said. They wounded at least two innocent victims and killed a third, retired Army veteran Donald White, 52. He was struck in the chest and died at a hospital. Police found more than 50 shell casings at the scene.

Nothing about this seems criminal...gary kreie wrote:Think how we would draw if we were in a division with teams nearby rather than teams as far away from St Louis as one can get. All so Dallas can stay in the East. We always draw well when we play nearby teams because folks from those cities live here. And we would have real rivalries like NFC North. Chicago fans took over Dallas stadium when they played since it was the Midwest.

Not sure if the ferguson talk is still happening here. But the new account from 2 workers from a company in Jefferson county that saw the shooting match a lot of what the 3-4 other witnesses said. Brown running away, Wilson chasing..shoots. Brown stops turns around with hands up and Wilson fires off bunch of shots in him.

You'd think this might spark some outrage- some meaningful reaction. No, just the same, tired excuses and spin we've heard for years.quincunx wrote:Six homicides in St. Louis in less than 24 hours

On KTVI last night, Police Chief Sam Dotson blamed violent video games and Missouri's liberal gun laws for the recent rash of violence, and then he reminded everyone that overall crime is down almost 50% in the city. Yeah, that's really reassuring for the people who live in one relatively small corner of north St. Louis where six people were killed in apparently unrelated incidents in the last 24 hours. Oh, and there was also a shooting in south St. Louis last night, and the victim is in critical condition, so homicide detectives are on this case as well.
I guess while Ferguson is calm for the time being, life for residents in some city neighborhoods is 'back to normal' now.

I would agree with you on checkpoints would be bad in the shadows of Ferguson but at this point it's about regional & nationwide perception. The whole Ferguson blow up has already deter people from coming here & possibly business's as well. The 6 homicides in less than 24 hours is already perpetuating the situations here making it even worse as people like me feel like theres no hope or theres no light at the end of the world.
I don't care if you are rainbow shasty colored
These people have no regard for life at all nor do they care about what race you are or if you were a veteran of some sorts.
300,000 residents & over 100 slayings is outrageous
I feel bad for the cops cause everyone has vendetta against them
Just picture a world without police...
These men & women work to serve you & me on top of that most don't get paid worth anything yet alone most aren't respected
Yes there are both good & bad police but i like to think theres more good than bad out there..

1,400 comments and counting on the article. There also is instagram video of the two guys in the aftermath, one can be seen putting his hands up as if describing what MB did.dbInSouthCity wrote:Not sure if the ferguson talk is still happening here. - VERY interesting. Sad that the color of a witness's skin makes any difference in their credibility, but that's where we're at, I guess.roger wyoming II wrote:1,400 comments and counting on the article. Saint Louis and Kansas City have seen dramatically different trends in homicide this year.... Saint Louis is up 32% and Kansas City down 31%.
- 5,433
^ Yikes!
Serious question: How long will the mayor continue to ignore this disturbing trend, and how long will the police chief insist that the overall crime rate is down so everything is awesome?
Meanwhile, there have been ten homicides in the first eight days of September. From the Post-Dispatch:
Man pulled from burning car in St. Louis had been shot, dies of injuries
