Good. Maybe he'll have a nice new home in prison, along with a brand new "husband".

I'm not sure what the Metrolink discussion had in common with anything, as the guy wasn't a panhandler nor did he travel from or to downtown and NLEC...but thanks for the reminder to stay safe on the train.

From what I can tell by the discussion of the metro link incident, the person jumped someone for no reason while minding his own business. Right?

What does that have to do with the homeless being violent and aggressive downtown?

I think some of us are justly questioning if we should really be wary of these extreme fighting homeless people while we are out walking our dogs, minding our own business? Or was this one individual provoked or mentally ill? Was it a fluke? Or is the safety of hard working, rent paying downtown residents in danger because of some wide spread virus that is making homeless people want to hit us all in the chin?

Someone said earlier in this post that it might be different if they were a single girl. Well, I would like to ask Gopher what he would recommend to that single girl after going through that experience? Should she be afraid of every homeless person now? Should she only be accompanied by military staff? Never go outside alone? Should she wear chin armor?

I've lived downtown for 8 years now, before all the big development, and have never had a violent experience with any homeless person. They may cuss me out and annoy me to no end, but haven't and probably never would touch me. I feel it's because of how I carry myself and interact with people. I realize you can't bank on that and you can always run into the wrong person at the wrong time. That's why I want to know if this an isolated incident between Gopher and a homeless guy? I think we have a right to ask these questions. If I sound like I'm dissing Gopher, I apologize. I am very sorry you had this experience in our front yard. And I do think you were right in not fighting back.

Good post.

I've lived downtown for three years and have never had a bad (violent) experience with a homeless person. Nor have my friends that live here.

The chances of getting hit in the chin at some bars is probably much higher than being hit by a homeless person.

I think we can safely conclude that this was an isolated incident.

While it could end up being murder, I would highly doubt that it will.

Shooting inside Maggie O'Briens after the Cards game Monday. That's what they said on the radio anyway.

I believe Fox 2 said 2 dead...one of the bartenders included. Another tragic loss of life for a few hundred dollars, another great piece of news for downtown and St Charles/Louis county citizens who hate the city.

There was a dude who left Jack Patricks to manage and bartend at O'briens a couple of months ago. Hope it wasn't him because he was about the nicest guy you could ever meet.

Several shootings in the area last night and no arrests. These are people who took a gun out and pointed it at somebody (including a cop) and pulled the trigger.

They are still out there. Personally I never feel unsafe but it might be a long summer.

well at least one of the 2 killed was a suspect in the robbery.

I hate to sound so callous, but these thugs didn't respect life so they shouldn't expect theirs to be respected either.

Maybe since one of them wound up with a toe tag that will send a message to these ingrates that a couple hundred dollars isn't worth it.

It seems like the murderers are getting more and more brazen in the downtown area. I went to the Cards game and drove by that place about 30 minutes before that happened. Scary.

SO f*****g senseless!!! :hell:

I am so frustrated with these criminals. Everytime we make strides forward, something like this sets us back significantly. I know a lot of people who work Downtown, who claim to have been victims of crimes or know someone who has, in recent months. Has anyone noticed an upswing in crime Downtown or is this just another peak? Maybe patrols Downtown should be beefed up to show these thugs that they are taking a risk when committing crimes Downtown.

This is the third high-profile incident along Market in the last month or so isn't it? Seems so weird. Of all the streets in the city, Market is about the biggest, emptiest highway of thoroughfare around. Why all this insanity there all of a sudden. I wonder if it is because of the quick access to the highway and the ability to quickly dodge north, south, east, or west. So sorry to hear about this last one, it is absolutely sickening. So much for the theory that you pretty much have to get into a pissing match at a gangsta club to get shot downtown. Looks like we now have to add "don't work at or possibly patronize sports bars during normal operating hours after sporting events" to the list of ways to get killed in our fair city. Absolutely disgusting.

We need to TRIPLE the number of officers downtown this summer. With the All Star game coming up we cannot allow more of this crap to happen!

Make the thugs realize downtown is NOT their playground. Maybe with the constant eyes of the 5-0 on them these low lifes will take their "business" elsewhere. And if they do try something an officer will kindly introduce their brains to the sidewalk!

wow, this is starting to become BS. I guess I will repeat my rant (about every 5 pages or so...)

Do we have any street cameras that caught anything? I don't understand why we cant invest in a downtown city surveliance program. Hell, hold a special vote to let the residents decide if they should be assessed a fee in order to help build this. Ill gladly do it.
