Same owners. Stuck in appeals court. Hopefully the hearing comes up soon.

Liquor Laws for the city state that if your license is revoked then you cannot operate a bar in the city. So if the ruling on Lure stands, that may solve all of Soulards problems with this place. It would basically require them to close Social House as well.

^ Can you give us any more details?

Wouldn't it be great if the muggers were in Spanish Lake instead of our lovely old historic city? I'm really warming to this idea of building public housing out in the middle of nowhere. Villa Ridge, Eureka, Pacific, etc. Of course, I'm not implying the muggers lived in subsidized housing I'm just saying that crime in the city WOULD go down if we built some shiny new Section 8 apartment complexes in Villa Ridge.

If you build it they will come...

Near Soulard Social House?
At the SRG general membership meeting our neighborhood officer, Tony Miller, mentioned an incident that sounds a lot like this.

The victim of the assault was on his way home from the Social House, and police encountered him on Broadway near the brewery. The victim was unsure of exactly where (he remembers seeing the brewery) or when (sometime between 3-5 AM) the assault had occurred, and it was implied that he was pretty drunk, (I'm not trying to say that he was somehow at fault, just that his level of intoxication may be an explanation for the fuzzy details) although the disorientation could have been the result of being beaten badly enough to have a fractured orbital bone.

I don't know if this is your brothers friend juice, but this along with an armed robbery Sunday evening at 9th and Victor outside of Tip Top have made for a recent wave of violent incidents in the neighborhood.

One could also break one's orbital bone by being really drunk and falling down.

I have a couple of colleagues in the area and they claim that the crime rate isn't that high, or something that is well within normal range, which sounds really good to someone who will just be taking the jump to live in the city.

I sure hope that would hold true as I am not used to the metropolitan style of living. But nevertheless, I think that it would be pretty easy to adjust for me as long as I get the right stuff going.

Having lived in Downtown for many years, and the last year in Soulard, I am fully comfortable saying that I belive Soulard to be less a center of crime than Downtown. This takes into consideration that Soulard is structured more as a pure neighborhood and less a destination area. This is absolutely nothing against Downtown, but is pro-Soulard.

Regarding Social House: Yes, it's clubby and reeks of the Landing's demographics. Still, I was at the SRG meeting last month and heard the bar's management address the crowd. Personally, I was quite impressed. They didn't want to take too much attention from the night's agenda, they said all was addressed at a public forum they threw a few nights before (and made well-known of its taking place), and the head manager even gave out his personal cell phone number for anyone else there who wanted to talk things over. I've never been a fan of the Aprillo family's businesses, but these guys were quite competent and wanting to keep good relations with the neighborhood. Whatever happens to the ownership is one thing, but the day-to-day management is quality; my compliments to them.

That weekend, I went in to see what all was up there, and it was a general mix of young partiers on a barely lit dance floor. Two cops in their blues were standing inside by the bar. A bar fight did break out between some kids, and the bouncers got them out quickly, wit the two cops assisting. Not my scene, but it's run pretty well.

Here's an interesting analysis from Allegheny County from a few years ago. Is there something similar for St Louis City/County?

Nine separate shootings over the weekend including two in the Grove.

Why is it always a Chevy Impala? Is this how stereotypes get started?

I live at Manchester and Tower Grove, and all incidents can be traced to one address nearby. I know the Impala, and all the other vehicles that frequent this address. We are meeting today with the NSO and others, to work on shutting down the slum lord who owns the property and several other properties in the city. Things should quiet down in FPSE very soon.

The city is seriously considering cutting 80 cops...and the budget is up? Huh? How could anyone think that's a good idea? Anyone? If the policing is better I could see cutting a few cops but 80? Considering the sitch in the city and the latest numbers cutting cops should be the very last thing that gets cut at all. And I'm not some buddy-buddy guy when it comes to cops.

It would be the first time I've ever done anything of the sorts but whom would I call to let someone know that I think cutting cops is a terrible idea?

Pension costs went up more than the budget did. At least that is what I heard on the radio.

^ True. But the city trumpets the "investment", i.e. budget increase, complains about pension costs being the cause of budget issues and then the Chief says the force should cut 80 officers. Just saying the message is incoherent.
