^ IMO this whole story is incredibly overblown and off-base. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong, but it's basically a crime map in your GPS. It's useful and not racist.

Murder in Soulard last night, not too far from the Market and Market Apts.
Channel 2 reported that a white male in his 30's was fatally shot on the street.
Several residents of the Soulard Market Apts. heard at least 6 shots.

$100 says it's tied to the Soulard Social House bar.DogtownBnR wrote:Murder in Soulard last night, not too far from the Market and Market Apts.

^What type of crowd hangs there on Weds. nights? That is a 3 AM bar, I assume?
I believe the same family that ran the "troubled" and now shuttered clubs on Washington, owns the Social House, right?

The early word from my sources (shock..good call C.S) is that a guy leaving Social House
was involved in an attempted robbery, resisted and got shot. Does not appear to be a drug deal gone bad, at least at this time. This is, of course, not official, so it could change.

I'd bet money that the "robbers" were at some point that evening, also in the bar.DogtownBnR wrote:The early word from my sources (shock..good call C.S) is that a guy leaving Social House

My source says the cause of the fight was a robbery. Murder victim has no criminal history. He was approached by thugs looking to rob him and the altercation ensued, then the shooting, when he resisted. I'm sure the Social House has to be worried that public scrutiny will follow, after yet another incident.
On a positive note, I ate lunch there a few weeks ago and it was tasty...

Does the Social House have a thug clientele? Or strictly hoosier?
- 3,767
Oddly enough, Weds. nights are the big nights there. If you click on the album, it shows old flyers from events. Most are on Weds. nights.

Not sure about the clientele. You'd think by the flyers, you'd get the Landing/college crowd, but who knows. Lure attracted a 'thug' crowd on certain nights, but obviously this is a different venue.

I've never been but according to friends that made a brief visit they said it was a mix of thug, wanna be thug, white trash, d-bag, and "Serbian gangster"
Gee, what am I thinking missing out on that gumbo?
Does anyone who helped get Lure off of Washington Avenue know what needs to be done to rid Soulard of this scourge now?

That makes (at least) two neighborhoods in the city with no homicides last year already on the ledger for 2012.
- 11K
I believe the city is at 9 homicides and had 2-3 at this time last year.

Yeah so much for the theory that warm weather=more violence
Of course murders could go up ten fold every time we get sunny 70 degree days and I'd still prefer it over the crap we've seen the last couple of days

KMOX reported that we are at 11 murders already. There must have been a few last night.

Turns out the guy is the nephew of a friend. I recognized the last name, but thought he spelled it different.
Soulard was lucky to be homicide free last year. The participants in the brawl outside Social House that resulted in a hit and run death were considerate enough to take their fight across Broadway into Kosciusko rather than Soulard. That makes (at least) two neighborhoods in the city with no homicides last year already on the ledger for 2012.
People in the neighborhood have been working on this for awhile. Social House has been under scrutiny for the amount of service calls stemming from their location and the scrutiny intensified after the death last fall. They have been under a cease and desist order for awhile and have been required to meet regularly with the police, NSO, and the city's problem property division to work together to try and solve the issues related to their business.Does anyone who helped get Lure off of Washington Avenue know what needs to be done to rid Soulard of this scourge now?
I would imagine the SRG neighborhood meeting will be pretty lively on Wednesday.
For anybody interested in what Social House has to say about the shooting in Soulard last week they will be holding a forum tonight at 5:30, "to discuss the recent incident, past incidents and the steps they are taking to avoid future incidents."
Although as @nextSTL pointed out on twitter perhaps replacing "incidents" with "murders" would be more accurate.

For those who can't attend, here's a copy of the minutes:ebo wrote:For anybody interested in what Social House has to say about the shooting in Soulard last week they will be holding a forum tonight at 5:30, "to discuss the recent incident, past incidents and the steps they are taking to avoid future incidents."

Meeting opens...
"It's not our fault"
"Those people weren't in our club"
"Even though we don't know who the shooters are, we know they weren't in our club"
"Everyone is picking on us because of our last name"
"The murder last spring happened across the street. So we can't control what happens in other parts of the city, even though everyone involved was in our club minutes earlier"
Adjourn.

Why does the City not make it mandatory for establishments like this to hire REAL security, REAL off-duty cops, until close! They should not have a choice.

People should have the right to choose whether or not they go to a bar/club that contributes to murder. It's the same right we have, as Americans, to choose whether or not we patronize bars/clubs with smoking. Sure, it's much more safe for EVERYONE involved to just ban smoking in these areas, but that's just not American. I don't need Barack Hussein telling me where I can or can't get my murder fix at 3am. I'll do what I want; that's what the Constitution is for. (Unless you're gay, or different than me. Then that's not what it's for.)
But seriously, yes, they should have to hire security. Or more simply, they should not allow the (I'm assuming) white trash in the place to begin with. a $25 bar tab isn't worth the hassle.
I hope that is sarcasm, a neighborhood should be able to shape what businesses are able to operate nearby. The federal government doesn't have any say, and won't. The extreme right lawmakers in MO may pose limits (ban on strip clubs), so I don't see why a neighborhood can't try to reduce the problems. Neighbors are not necessarily the only patrons.ricke002 wrote:DogtownBnR wrote:Why does the City not make it mandatory for establishments like this to hire REAL security, REAL off-duty cops, until close! Also, who owns club Amnesia (Lure) now? It seems to be operating still.
