Good news, STLPD finally caught this scumbag who beat and robbed woman at Target on Hampton and Walgreens on Grand. Put'em away!!!!
They did. Also, the friendly neighborhood Dogtown robbers have been arrested - they were caught in the process at a home on Wise. And still using that Dodge Caravan. There was a chase, then they wrecked the vehicle near Barnes. The police used the pics from the video that was shot.

So it does pay to look and pay attention.

And the cops shot and killed a suspect in alley robberies the other night in Benton Park West after he pulled a gun on them.

Good news all around :)

Just a few emails going around that a friend of mine got from the victim and a friend. RE: Target robbery assault.

Hi, Everyone!

Just wanted to tell everyone to be careful because I know most of you live in this area. I was attacked/assaulted in the Target Outside Parking lot Friday night, October 23rd at 6:58 pm at Hampton. I was approaching my car and I saw a black man talking on a cell phone in front of my car , and i put my kitty litter i was carrying in the passenger side and when i walked around to the driver's side to get in and shut the door, the black man came around and grabbed the door before I could shut it. He said get in the f'cking car. I yelled "NO" and he told me to get in the f'cking car and scoot over and I said "NO" again and he started punching me in the face at least three times (left eye, nose, and mouth). I screamed "HELP" several times and kept screaming and then he tried to cover my mouth so I started fumbling for my keys to hit the panic button but my hands were shaking so bad I couldn't push the right button, so I honked the horn several times. Then I tried to open the passenger door but it was locked. The creep started punching me in the back and then I heard Zan (my dog) growl behind me and the creep ran off over to McDonalds on Hampton and Chippewa.

This Black man is 5'9", 5'10", dark complexion, craters in his cheeks, wrinkles on his forehead, about 40 to 50 yrs old, thin build, 180-190 lbs, well-spoken.

He was wearing a dark blue baseball cap with a light blue bill/rim on top. He had a black nylon zip up jacket on. He has done this to 3 other women. Two of which he got the ladies to get back in the car with him. I believe he had a gun with one or two of the other victims and choked them. The cops think he was trying to carjack/kidnap me or get me to go to an ATM machine.

He is still loose. The other incidents happened Friday during the day before mine, and they were all at businesses between Grand and Gravois and now Hampton area. He also robbed/assaulted someone Sunday morning, October 25th. So be careful at Schnucks, Walgreens, Target. If you see anyone suspicious in the parking lots, please go back in side and report them. No one should be loitering in the parking lots. I know plenty of times black men have asked me for money at Walgreens, Schnucks, Target and Kmart in those areas. The stores say to report them so I will from now on. Also the cops told me it is safer to park in the underground parking at Target because the surveillance video is better than outside. Unfortunately they did not see him so far on the outside video. He could be taking the bus since I did not see him get into a car. The bus stop is right by McDonalds and the businesses he is hitting are on bus routes.

No one came to help me and no one called 9-1-1. The cops said 3 or 4 people they interviewed at McDonalds and Target saw and heard me screaming but no one will come forward to identify the guy.

Just wanted to make you aware since this guy is still on the loose and will keep doing this. The cops are trying to get an ID on the guy.

I am doing okay. I will be stronger from this. I will definitely not let this guy get the best of me. I am a little shaken up, but I'm alive. My face is still bruised but nothing was broken. I believe it could have been a lot worse. I feel very lucky. And I believe Zan saved my life.

Please be careful and be aware of your surroundings. I hope this guy gets caught soon! I don't want this to happen to anyone else!

Love,

Lori

One of my very dearest friend's friend was attacked last night at the Hampton Target's outside parking lot around 6:45p. She was approached when she was getting into her car by a black man in his 40's. He told her to get in her car. He beat her silly. He tried to get her to drive. She fought back. She kicked. She screamed. She honked the horn. NO BODY CAME TO HELP! She screamed for help more. When her dog, that happened to be in the back seat of her car started attacking the guy, he ran off. PLEASE WATCH YOURSELF ALL THE TIME. PLEASE HELP OTHERS! THERE was NO VIDEO of this attack. This is NOT one of those friend of a friend urban legends. I, truly, know this happened to a someone who is pretty aware of her surroundings. PLEASE HELP ME TO SPREAD THE WORD and to remind everyone that this is OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. Protect those in it.

Best

TARGET INCIDENT UPDATE

Hello all,

I was at a St. Louis Hills Neighborhood Association Board Meeting this evening (Wednesday 10/28) and Captain Ronnie Robinson was there to address this crime as well as other neighborhood concerns. A couple very important facts came out, which I think are important to pass on:

1) THEY HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. He was recently released from the penitentiary. The captain believes they have the "right guy" who is not only responsible for this crime, but a couple other crimes in the Grand/Gravois area.

2) There were witnesses who came forward to tell their story.

3) Target does have a very elaborate video system that did "catch" video" of the crime, but it had to be processed out of state and took a couple days to get back.

4) The victim immediately left the scene of the crime and went home to make the report - which is why there was some initial confusion in locating a report on the crime. The report was made from her home address, not Target's address.

Captain Robinson asked if "Lori" was in the audience at the meeting because he wanted to publicly commend her for being so brave and not getting in the car.

I am very glad she is alive and well to tell her story. It is a wake up call for us all! Captain Robinson also commended us (the neighborhood) on our quick e-mail distribution in getting the word out to everyone about the crime.

I hope I have reported everything accurately... most importantly I wanted to let everyone know that a suspect is in custody so everyone can feel a little bit safer... but don't let your guard down... and get a dog if you don't have one!

Sincerely,

Peggy

^Even more happy this scumbag was caught. Hmm, so he's in his 40's now? I say we lock him up until he is in his 80's, or he goes out feet first

Put this a-hole in some stocks, set him up at the corner of Hampton and Chippewa, and let anyone who'd like to take a few free shots at him.

While I wish this clown would have never committed the crimes or at least gotten caught during the first attack, it is nice to see that the community quickly reacted. Hopefully this will send a message to the wanksters that the good people are watching and if you commit a crime: you will be caught.

Same thing for the Dogtown burglars.

According to my friend who is a city cop, there was a car jacking at Hampton and Watson this morning. He did not have any details for me. He was working on getting some. Has anyone heard anything on this?

This crime is really starting to hit close to home for me. Between this, the murder of my neighbor and multiple robberies, I am getting more and more concerned about crime in general. I kno it is human nature to be more concerned when it hits close to home, but this if getting ridiculous and I am getting p*ssed!!!!! :x

Move on up to the north side where it is safe. The beginning of summer was a little crazy, but it's been quiet as Mayberry up here for months.

Was I the only one to be awoken to gun shots around 2:30am? 5 of them, right outside Tucker and Washington? If not, sorry, maybe I was dreaming, but it was a bit disturbing either way.

Why cant we get cameras installed on streets, and a police presence, even if be just a frickin squad car driving up and down Washington, Tucker, Pine, Locust, Olive, etc....

It just really sucks to live down here and have to deal with that.

Me as well. Called 911, saw a squad car leisurely drive by 10 minutes later.

This is why Washington Ave needs a 24 hour Dunkin Donuts. If one of those was down there and something happened, a dozen cars would respond within 3 minutes.

Just do what I do and turn your radio on at night and make sure if you have kids that they are sleeping behind a nice thick brick wall, preferably low and close to the floor.

The gunfire awakened and scared my child who climbed into my bed last night.

At this point I JUST DON'T CARE ANYMORE and as a parent I don't have the luxury of "waiting" until things get better so we are getting the hell out. My son has gotten one hell of an "education" downtown all right. One that is entrenched in fear not by what he is told, but by what he has seen.

I am a parent and my sole responsibility is to ensure the safety and well being of my child. I refuse to take my child outdoors on the street, we drive everywhere, I have not taken him to the adult-daycare (I mean library) in over a year because of the bums, this isn't living people, it's a god-damn war zone and it's unacceptable.

But not to worry! People who don't even live here will tell you nothing is wrong and that there's nothing to see here. To those I say, "You can take your jedi-mind tricks and shove it."

As the parent of a 15-month-old daughter I understand that you have every right to be upset. I hope that you find a safe and quite neighborhood for your family.

I do not live downtown. I live in Forest Park Southeast, but deal with some of the same stuff (neighbor's homes broken into, friend's car windows being broken, etc.). The thing I wanted to comment on is your strawman argument that someone "will tell you nothing is wrong and that there's nothing to see here." At least I know absolutely no one who would say that. I'm sorry if you were misled. Our city neighborhoods are not the same as Ballwin, Creve Coeur or some other places. I live where I do because of its location. I would rather up with what some would call typical urban issues than drive to work everyday or live far from a good place to run (Forest Park). It's a balancing act for everyone.

Wow, that's aweful stuff. I feel for you and your family. I live in an inner ring suburb and it's fine. I hope you settle in a much better area. Though sad, your post should be required reading for many people in power in the city...

Yeah, you did not seem like a good fit for downtown. Or for a city.

Gunshots are horrible, scary, and residents of a neighborhood have every right to be angry and upset at events like this.

Your comments about the homeless, though, are inexcusable. You may resent that the homeless have few other places to go, but they have every right to be in that library as much as you do.

Plus, even with the news of gunshots and a couple murders downtown this year, how many times have innocent people been harmed? I'd wager not too many. For a downtown with 85,000 daily workers, plus tourists and convention traffic, plus 10,000 residents every night--crime is pretty low. I know you have a primal fear of losing a child to gunfire--that's normal--but I can't help but think the way to make things safer is to contribute rather than pack up and leave.

I'm upset that you moved downtown and taught your son inordinate fear and classism.

Best of luck with the move.

And on that note, I'd really like to hear of other downtown parents' experiences. Sorry if this came off as harsh.
